OBTAINING A TITLE: ANY UPDATES?

The registration/titling process is closer. What has people's experiences been? I did a search of titling companies-is this still an alternative? GA will issue registration based on a bill of sale, but not a title. I wouild like to hear about how you got your cars titled in the US recently. As a refresher of my situation, the Tornado has no numbers on any of the components built by them. Chip

I am not a lawyer, and am not able to give legal advice. So for what this free opinion is worth, remember that you get what you pay for.

You might want to buy a cheap early 60's ford coupe to get a title to match your car. Be sure to save any vin plates before junking. It might give you a stronger case in having a title-able car that can be sold in other states.

Many folks use a Title Company (there are several) and make up their own VIN #.
So long as you have a chassis tag with that
VIN etched on it, you shouldn't have a problem.

Using an "old" chassis tag carries the risk that the tag # is still in somebody else's name. Why run the risk?

Besides, the replica FAV tags sold by Ben
and others are cool looking. In a pinch
simply take a piece of aluminum sheet,
cut out a square, and stamp/etch it yourself.
Once it's painted and riveted to the chassis,
it looks darned "official".

Chip, did you call the DMV in your home state. Last week I called the NH DMV and they were very reasonable. The State Police request that I have receipts for the major purchases, even a credit card statement will suffice, for things like motor, tranny, etc. If no serial numbers are on the car, then the DMV assigns a VIN when they send the title.

Brian_Just got off the phone with the GA DMV. Thats what prompted the post. They will register a car older than 1986 but will not title it unless I alreeady have a title. I may see if I can get anypaper wk from Tornado.

Thanks for your quick response - keep info/experiences commig. cb

Chip, I don't understand the need for a title in Ga if its' not a title state. As far as selling it or registering it in another state, all you need is the Georgia registration an a VIN Inspection to get the car titled in most other states.

I just thought it might be better to have a title, but I am learning that I really dont need one. A bill of sale will get me a tag and registration, which is all that I need to have to show ownership. And these title services are coming under more suspicion by a lot of state DMVs, cb
