On the Road Again!

Hi All,

CAV Canada's first customer car is back on the road again after an extensive upgrading and engine rebuild.

We added the new fully jointed wide track suspension, stiffer transaxle mount, revised motor mounts and heat sheild around the carbs. I'll post pics in the technical forums on these.

The engine came off the dyno at 530hp, Angelo has all the data. We're fine tuning the 48IDA's right now so I can't wait to feel how it runs.

The theme for this car is double Le Mans winner s/n 1075 so we've been working on details to bring it as close as possible to that look.

As supplied by CAV in Gulf Racing colours, we've added Black Out Headlight Opennings, Round Driving Lamps with Integral Parking and Turn Signals, Side Marker Lamps, and Orange surrounding Driving Lamp Covers. Small details but huge improvement in looks (and lighting).

On the rear end the only thing new is the angle of the tailpipes. The vents above the tailights and black mesh grilles were done here too.

The Wide Track Kit was developed here on Johns 1076 theme car. Seemslike the Gulf Racing colours are becoming the trademark og GT40s like the dark blue with white stripes on Cobras.

There's been a lot of discussion about ride heights. I like to run the cars as low as practical for the street. 4.25 front and 4.5 rear dry. CAVs suspension geometry works extremely well at this heights.

The wide track suspension kit eliminates all friction and drag in the OEM bushings, includes longer axles and fills out those Gulf wheel arches.

Enjoy the pics (compressed Ron:)) How's she looking guys?

Ian - the new suspension setup should work fantastic, great job. Did you custom fab the intake plenum for the webers? I've setup a template for one and the flame arrestor plate/brackets but haven't committed to doing the work yet. Did Angelo's car always have IDA's or were they IDF's?

Looks beautiful - and she'll fly!

Congrats-

Chris

Impressive!! I am going to build my RCR40 like #1076. You got to love the Gulf color scheme. it just jumps out and says "Le Mans!"

By chance, do you know the paint codes?

Hi Chris,

Check out my posting under techincal forums engines, covers the heat sheild. We've made up a back fire plate to go over the carbs with integral air cleaners however it's too close for comfort to the rear window. Back to the drawing board! Anyways since the rear glass is tempered glass rather than plastic I'm not bothered by the occasional spit up.

Yes, it's always had 48IDAs and you haven't come by for a ride yet! Give me a call bud.

Cheers

Hi Bill,

I have the PPG Paint Codes. I plan to post all the CAV paint codes on the CAV Manufactures Talk section of the forum soon. When's your car ready to spray?

Cheers

Ian, the 48 IDAs - they have 44mm chokes in them (I think the largest that fit)? And the dyno results, done with these exact carbs with 44mm chokes? What is the size of the engine and maximum RPM? Thanks,

Ron

Hi Ron,

The carbs have 37mm chokes. It went like a bat out of hell before the rebuild. Made 530hp on the dyno with a 750 Holley and 4 into 1 headers. Maximum power was under 6000rpm I believe.

Cheers

Ian, Car looks fantastic.
I am interested in your driving lamp, turn signal park light integrated unit. Please provide details and part # if able.
Thanks

I am very interested to see what it does on the dyno with the Webers when compared to the 4bbl. I'm concerned as my motor is in the similar power range and I think 44mm chokes are going to give it fits at high RPM.

Thanks Colin,

I've posted info on the lights in the technical forum for trim etc. All the parts are available, just a wee bit pricey:)

Cheers

Hey Ian - are numbers DOT legal? - if they can catch you first of course? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
