Original Mk1 Wiper Blade.

Gents,

Is there an effort underway to reproduce the wiper assembly?

If so, what is the timeline?

Thank you,

JM
Our shop is currently remaking the plastic pieces and wiper blades for a 1966 GT40 road car, and will also reproduce the arm.

Hi
How does this clip on to the actual blade please ? Because I can’t see the small L shaped SS pieces underneath the lower plastic pieces . Those L clips hold the assembly onto the pair of strips on top of the rubber

I am having pics of the completed wiper sent to me and when I get them I will attach to this post. The four attachment point plastic pieces have a laser cut stainless clip that attaches to the rubber portion of the wiper blade. The plastic pieces are made of Delrin and the rods and pivot pieces are stainless rod also. I cnc machined the plastic pieces.

Paul,

Can you provide details of your shop (expertise, location, POC info) and what plans you may have to provide a kit for this assembly?

Also, are there plans to include the blade as well?

Thank you,

JM

Thanks for the post. I would rather you contact Jeff Snyder at Jeff's Ressurrections here in Taylor, Texas regarding the wipers as our shop made them at his request. His shop is world renowned for it's work. He can give you his personal recomendation of our shop as well as information regarding the wiper components. You can check out our website...Wilson's Machining.com in Taylor, Texas and see what we do and have made.

I offered US$3k for a NOS one 2 years ago but the guy wasn’t interested.
My restored original blade is presently sitting on an original concourse street car and the owner wants to buy it for similar money but I need it myself .
There’s 7 injection moulding tools needed for all the different plastic pieces. No one is crazy enough to remanufacture them correctly yet. The plastic pieces are too thin and fragile to 3D print.
The rubber blades are also special and need remanufacturing with the correct pattern & markings.
Nylon is known to keep original material properties, when SLS 3D printing. If anyone can share CAD files I will order some and post my results.

The Delrin I used to machine the pieces has worked great. Easy to machine. I don't know that much regarding 3D printing but I assume it is layered and not one piece. I often machine parts for clients for this reason instead of 3D printing them. The hardest part to make is the stainless blade. Very delicate at the humps where the rubber piece slides through.

Delrin is an excellent material and very suitable for milling. No doubt about that. Depending on the shape this can be expensive though.
As for 3D printing, SLS stands for Selective Laser Sintering. Starting point is Nylon powder where every layer is melted to bond to the previous layer ending up in solid material without the layers you will find with filament printing. Strength is equal to base material. The only thing you need to do is removing the skin, which can be done by sand blasting.
