rare heads

We just bought an Everett-Morrison Cobra with some very unusual heads. The valve covers say Ford Motorsports and are used as a rocker stud girdle. The rocker studs come all the way through the covers and is topped off with an acorn style nut. Any ideas? Thanks

These rocker covers were produced by Ford Motorsport about 15 or more years ago. They were designed to act as a stud girdle, with the rocker studs protruding through the top of the rocker covers. The required special conical washers. I've only seen one set of them in use, and they seemed to work OK.

I can't scan the catalog as it is bound and a feed-thru scanner won't work, but, yes they are vintage Ford Motorsport (pre Ford SVO parts and pre Ford Racing Parts) and not common.

The idea was good but newer heads and better valve gear made them redundant.

I looked into the matter little further, and found these rocker boxes came out in the late eighties. They also required a quarter inch spacer between the gasket surface and the rocker boxes. I have a vague memory that there was a minor problem with oil leaks. I hope this helps you.
