Remote AC Temp Control - Superformance/RCR

I am installing a VintageAir Mini II system into my RCR build. It comes with a 4 knob control which I would like to put in the driver's door, like Superformance does.

One of the switches is the temperature control unit which requires a capillary tube into the evaporator. Speaking to VintageAir, they do not have a 'remote' unit that would allow the switch to be in the door - The capillary tube can not survive the door hinge and they comment that the electronics can not be separated from the capillary tube for a remote location.

Looking at Superformance, they have all four in the door. Does anyone know how they manage the temperature control? Is it a remote unit? Different brand than VintageAir? Other ideas on how to accomplish this

Not sure where your located but in Florida temp control is called leave it blasting 24/7 or just turn the fan down and close a vent.

If you’re not running heat I’m not sure that you need the temp controller.

Thanks for your comments, Kyle, but you need the evaporator control to keep from freezing up the unit.

I'm not a HVAC expert, but this how I understand the SPF system. On SPF the capillary tube in evaporator switch has a mechanical knob that can be set to cut off/ recycle the compressor when icing occurs. Lowest setting cuts off compressor sooner (higher temperature). This cannot be adjusted from inside the cockpit. I think the door temperature control just opens vent doors more and less between a/c and heating.

Paul, my plan is to use a flex shaft like found on rotary tools to extend the knob rather than trying to relocate the temperature control unit. I will fix the temp knob under the dash and run the cable through to the door pocket. Just need to find one the right length and then solder on the appropriate adapters. Might also ask cable suppliers to make one for me. Cheers, Randy

Interesting, I remember my SLC had the cap tube and I just left it set to high. On my FFR the siroco unit has an automatic de-icing mechanism that does away with the cap tube. I assume it’s all internal

Maybe this will work.
