Replica parts database

Hi guys,

Just a thought here.
How about having a parts database for the various kits?(including part numbers maybe?)
I saw dave Champ's post about the lower ball joint on his GTD and it set me thinking that it would be useful for all owners of all kits to know exactly what parts are fitted to their cars. (ie, where the kit mfr's sourced their parts)
I realise that as owners change and adapt their cars away from "standard" spcification it becomes less relvant, but it'd be a handy thing to have (IMHO)
I would guess it wouldn't HAVE to be hosted here, maybe on the individual websites (GTD owners etc) but it WOULD be a great "one stop shop" for all replica owners.
Any thoughts?

Simon, good idea. As one who has got a part built KVA, I havn't a clue which parts come from what. Some sort of clue on commonly used items, even on an upgrade part would help out enormously. Now if only I could get my hands on it!!

Great idea - a database that anyone could add to would soon produce results I am sure. I also have a KVA with odd sized bushes which I am trying to identify

Great idea and I am willing to particpate with the little knowledge I built up over the year being in Belgium and far away from many GT owners.
I also want to thank Frank Catt and Chris Melia who always have been of great help to me in this respect.

Why don't we just start a new tread under GTD PARTS LIST BY OWNERS (NOT Manufacturers) and have everyone add their info. If possible, we can also mention the website/individual parts can be purchased from.

Some parts (like the 3 rear Aluminum Panels) can be purchased from manufactures for $350+, while someone we all know can make it just as good for $150.

Why not doing the same presentation as technical subjects
1- sources for engine and box (and spare parts of course)
2- sources for all others stuffs

It could be precised in the thread for which car it is.
Or fill a form with all relevant information which can be viewed by topics.

Their are lot of good things to do to centralize the manufacturers.

If did occur to me after requesting a part code that it would be of great interest to many replica builders, though perhaps much less interesting to manufacturers who no doubt typically like to control sources.

Posting on the Forum is great but we can create a more structured format on a website. I am looking into the possibility of hosting a list on the GT40 Enthusiasts Club website, otherwise I might add to my own www.gt40.me.uk If you want to send me any information you have to [email protected] I will compile it.

One thing we have to accept is that no responsibility can be taken by the data given in the list. That is "caveat emptor/ buyer beware" still applies to anyone using the information in the list.

I suppose expecting the manufacturers to provide data is asking a bit much? Or is it?

I'll help by hosting here on the site. I'd suggest making an Excel file, putting the various makes in columns, and the parts on the left hand side. Just fill them in as they come.
