Shop heater

I have an unfinished garage. Looking for a way to work during the cold months. Anyone got a suggestion for a heater that can put out plenty of heat, won’t break the bank in fuel or electricity? 20x20 space.

i use one of these...
runs on normal diesel or any other type of oil....sunflower / cooking oil ect...

running flat out no turning off at highest heat setting 6 it gets thru about 1 gallon diesel in 36 hours

all you have to do is supply it with 12v dc at about 5 amps ( old computer power supply ? )

Thanks for the suggestions. I already have window Air Con so, the cooling part is covered. I'd have considered swapping it out, but too many of the "cheap" mini-splits had service issues in the reviews, so I decided to pass. I looked at the diesel heaters, they look attractive and heat quickly, but I don't want to fuel them. I ended up going with a 240v forced air 5600W IR heater, will see how that goes.

Thats expensive power Ralph, we are about 15 cents but on a two tier system, the more you use you end up on the second level about 18 cents. my heat is a wood stove with electric backup. if you have a big shop try and run LED lights.
If I was to start over I'd go with a heat pump, heat and AC all in one.

When I built my shop a couple years ago, a number of people said most people underestimate the lighting requirement. I have 16 foot ceilings and went with 16 x 28,000 lumen LED lights in 2,000 sqft and it is fantastic, no regrets!

I prewired for a mini split, but haven't gotten around to getting it and installing yet, but with 2x6 fully insulated constriction I really haven't needed it either.

Yep, the installed lighting was crap. I now have 6x8000 lumen LED lights. Good enough for 20x20, plus a couple portable shop lights.

It really is...I'm it the middle of installing a 22K PV system at the rear field....30-Trina 715 watt panels with Two SMA 11.6 Hibrid inverters.
Installed Geothermal when I built the house...works great for both heat and cooling..however nothing better than the radiant heated floors.
Using an OWF for heat and hot water , just installed a Modine hot water unit in the garage so I can play over the winter..
My objective in building the house was Net Zero cost for energy...I'm almost there!

at what point in time do you think you will have saved enough to cover the cost of all your installation ?

I just had my HVAC install a vented propane heater. Vented systems do not introduce rust-promoting water vapor into your shop. 500 Gal propane tank. Honeywell WiFi thermostat with app. I keep it at 45 F, it's about 25 F outside today. Hop on my phone and turn it up to 60 F an hour or so before I plan to spend time out there. Every winter before this, could be 35-40 degrees in the shop which is not fun! Loving this so far this winter.
