Well my adventure has begun, the body arrived yesterday from Bill Hough. My chassis is awaiting to be loaded in London as soon as the ship can get to the dock. Apparently they are having a bit of a log jam with shipping in England. Engine is at the machine shop. Just took the Renault box to the machine shop to get the Quaife ATB and mainshaft assembly/gears installed.

Now to finish a '52TD restoration and get that out the door to make room for the chassis in a month. Install a permanent AC solution in my garage, along with more lighting and maybe by October get started on mock up.

I just want everyone to know how much I appreciate the support of the members of the forum. I am sure I am annoying some with all of my questions, again thank you for being there with answers. Today, from England, arrived another piece of the puzzle, from a helpful forum member. A period air cleaner for a 4bbl street car. Now there were two 40's made with a 4bbl, 1028 still wears its carb. Since the budget became quickly strained with my errant path on transmission selection, I chose to go the 4bbl route vs Webber. While Inglese 8 stack is the way I wanted to go the 4bbl will do for now and this allows me to procure other original bits such as alternator mounts. Cheers.

Look forward to your build log, I love my SGT, you’ve made the roughy choice there… Have to say though that my that initial thoughts are that the air filter you have may well not fit, I have a a 347 in mine and could not fit anything close to that under the rear clip, that said I have the Performer RPM air gap intake on mine?

Started mocking up the front suspension yesterday. Even without the proper brackets for the front anti roll bar the drop links appear to be in a bind.AAAAD834-EFBB-45EC-810F-9E30232C6C0A.jpeg

Once at ride height, spacers are correctly fitted, and geometry is set all will be ok.

Look into build sequence, its a few bits going on before the suspension is set up:)

Busy yesterday. Got rear suspension on. Began spyder fitment. So glad Bill put in a layer of carbon fiber in the roof down the front pillars, makes this really sturdy. I knew fitment of my front clamshell was probably going to be an issue and it was. So out withe the hacksaw. Will trim a little more of the front of the chassis off and the nose should drop into position.

I looked at several replicas and original cars. With most replicas the fender NACA ducts and not functional or have flex hose. The original bodies this is a fiberglass tube. Most replicas do not have the inner paneling as original front clams either. So I was pretty sure since the original chassis front frame diving down at a 19° angle, and the SGT was higher, I would have interference issues. So the duct tubes hit the top rail and the rails also narrow by 1/2-3/4" and interfered with the ducted hood insert.(this explains why some kits do not even have the ducts from the nostril's down. ) The bottom extension on the chassis also touched the bottom of the nose by 1/2" so nothing a cutoff wheel and a reciprocating saw cannot fix.

I also think that even though it is rarely seen the line from the windshield extends down to the front end on original chassis and that is a very cool feature to me. Now I will also run an original design alloy radiator.

Well another couple of days of learning.

I really wanted to have vintage Girling brakes per the MK1 road cars, for a vintage feel and look. I did not want big modern calipers with their logos screaming out through the wheels on a vintage looking car. Well guess what, While the Girling CR/BR calipers and solid discs are an attractive price from BG developments, they will not line up on a 6 pin drive hub and uprights on a Southern GT chassis. and while we could probably engineer the vented disc and the 18/4, 16/4 calipers to work the price was not in the budget for period race car pieces.

So on the phone today again with Mick at Southern GT and placed the order for his AP calipers and I will just have to fill in and paint over the Yellow AP Racing...

On the engine, short block is assembled and I ordered the Terminator Stealth and other components from EFI Pro. Holley is very back ordered and they say by Christmas I should be able to receive the Dual Sync dizzy and the Terminator. That is ok because I will not have this ready to start for a while but at least the parts are on order.

UN1 transmission arrived so once the motor is done, the machine shop will crack it open and begin the transformation there with the one piece mainshaft and ATB.

Original pattern alloy radiator ordered from Serck in England.

I placed an order with Cushman to get a lot of little small bits I will need. One issue with the SGT chassis is the small tunnel has no provision for oil lines or AC lines. I am trying to figure out what to do there. Any opinions welcome.

Working on Halibrand wheels with Vintage Wheels to fit the SGT 6 pin hubs.

Got on the waiting list for Avon tyres with Roger Kraus.

Solution for center tunnel, just get a taller one made and fit it in. You could also utilise the area behind the seats as per originals to run lines and electric water pump if needed.
If you need dimensions I’ve got some pdf’s of some plans, of just download from GrabCad.
Or, you could make a U channel to fit over the exusting one ( removable) thus separating your hot water pipes and oil lines...

AC lines run inside the sill on a cable tray on SGTs

After 5 months, after I ordered I have now received my Terminator X FI and Dual Sync distributor. Just have to take off the intake and mill 3/4" off of the septum divider of the intake to get a cleaner signal to the FI. Anyone else done this modification?

Recycling yesterday, it was 85 degrees yesterday, so took the base my chassis was crated in and made a door for under my stairs in the garage. This morning it is 28 degrees with the wind at 15-23 out of the north and I am now thinking may need this for firewood to survive for 3 days until it is 80 again!

Got to brag on my machinist, John Vilas in Bryan, TX. He has done aa great job milling down the septum in my manifold in preparation for the Holley Sniper X and machining up the alternator bracket to properly align and fit. Now for the transmission, he will replace the main shaft and gears, add the Quaife ATB, assemble and test every thing and shim where needed.

Can anyone please tell me how to rotate pictures on here???
