Superformance 1968/69 GT40 MKI gulf heritage. Roush 427R or IR?

looking to purchase a Superformance 1968/69 GT40 MKI gulf heritage. Any input? Roush 427R or IR? etc

Thanks JP. But the two im considering are already built and one has the Roush 427R and the other the IR.

I assume the 427R is a 4bbl? I always go for simplicity when it comes to me fixing the thing when it breaks later on. But for resale, seems everyone is transfixed by the 8 little stacks.

If you go for the 8 stack make sure:
- the setup is properly tuned
- O2 sensor is properly installed
- your headers have double slip joints when they merge into the collector (important for correct O2 readings of the sensor)
- no exhaust leaks
- make sure you have everything you need to access your ECU like cables, passwords, software, etc

Then, keep it simple. 427R.
Just one carb, no hassle with synchronising IR each year and ECU related adjustments unless you know your stuff.

If you like a GT40 and want no hussle, just keep it simple. Nobody cares wherever you park if its 8 stack Weber or EFI or just 0ne big Holley carb on top.
One carb & pretty much no lookin after vs well you sure have to look after it. Like bike carbs, you have to sync them once in a while. For bikers its usual stuff for others its for sure not.

The irony is that many want fuel injection for the "get in and go" mentality. Not having to fiddle with carbs pending the weather, gas etc.

But the reality is that both are pretty stout and don't require much fiddling. Source: I have a 427IR and my buddy a 427R in our SPF MKIIIs.

Unless you're chasing HP, you can just drop the 427IR in and go. The FAST tune is conservative but quite good. I had mine examined by a tuner and he said there was not much to do (tuning for reliability, not performance).

When specing out mine I wanted it to be close as possible so RHD, Gurney Westlake with webbers. Hard to find someone putting one together like that and giving it up. If it's left hand drive and it drives great and your happy with it then that's all that matters.

You might want to consider an engine built by Prestige Motorsports in the Charlotte area. They have an excellent reputation and build lots of engines for Cobras and GT40s. www.prestigemoto.com . You should check out reviews for both Prestige and Roush on the gt40s.com site.
