Supertrapps

Hi Guys

I need to do a noise test for rego. I was thinking about using a set of Supertrapps.

Has anyone used these Mufflers for a noise test and what level DB did you get.

Cheers
.

Dave, have you checked with Peter Ransom, he had them on his own GT40 and may know the difference they made. They have been fitted to a few GT40's locally here, but I don't know what sort of real world results they achieved.

Just an update.

The Super trapps seem to be making a huge difference to noise. Will put the final before and after DB results.

I've said before - the Supertrapps sorted out my trackside noise test problems OK but I fear there was a downside loss of horsepower issue when compared with open pipes.

They started life as Spark Arrestors and the principal is simple and brilliant, but the more discs you add, the quieter the motor gets but the more strangled the power. (This my experience, not a statement of absolute fact)

I believe there are some really clever after market silencer designs now available which will solve these issues.

Back in the day, the Supertrapp was quite possibly the cheapest and best solution as soon as the dreaded dB's became important. Now? I don't know.

Dave, I used supertraps at a trackday last year. Although they reduced the noise by a few decibels, the engine struggled to breathe at higher RPM reducing power. Also be aware of the fact that exhaust gases will be escaping vertically through the slits and this can lead to paintwork damage close to the tailpipes.

Absolutely, and in my view they are better used at right angles to the cars heading (side exhaust outlet) which greatly enhances scavenging.

Unbeatable for getting past 'tests' though :)

The Super trapps are for rego testing only. Then may be removed afterwards. We have to achieve 92 DB in WA.

Ok Results are in

Supertrapps are not going to get you past noise testing on their own. You will still need to run a muffler or baffle system with them.

The best we could get out of the Trapps was 94db, 2db more than required 92db. Although they greatly reduce the exhaust noise they don't comply with the requirements in WA.
