T70 mk3B build up

Well work is progressing, albeit slowly at times, on the FIA Lola T70 mk3B.

Body work is nearly done and all holes and vents have been done, front and rear lights, windows, etc, trial fitted and packed away, and shortly the body can come off the chassis and stored ready for paint !!
My big headache though is the 350 sb chevy engine. The one that I had that came with my other T70 looked good and had all the right ingrediants …. standard bore, standard mains, 4 bolt main caps and a mid seventies manufacture, so nicely weathered. Trouble is that on strip down, the weather must have found its way into the bores, as it would now need a 40thou rebore and two sleeves to put right, and I,m not sure that sleeving is going to work for a hard working race engine.

May I ask those very Chevy knowledgable people that frequent this site, your views on the matter, or better still, does anyone have, or know the best source for a guaranteed good standard old sb 350 block or complete engine, either here in the UK, or more likely in the US. I will need to order a complete rotational bottom end, rods, pistons, camshaft and heads, bringing the engine down to 5ltrs, to make it FIA compliant.

Your help/advice will be very much appreciated.

Does the block casting number absolutely need to be of a 1970s vintage? As far as sleeves are concerned, try asking Darton for their opinion. They make high quality sleeves.

Hello Graham. Did you ever consider a 302. Basically its a 327 block with with 283 crank. Chevy used them in the Z28 Camaros for the original Trans am series. I had a 68 Z28 back in the day and it was a screamer. Got my engine and trans axle in ,steering etc in my 3b .On my way to get materials for the interior. Email me for engine builders address. Later Don

It would have to be a 67 early 68 block to have small journals that would except a small journal 283 crank. 68-69 302's were large journal cranks.

Sorry for not being on the money. It was the bore and the stroke that I was trying to convey. Thanks for the help. Don

Looks great. A long ways from the Marauder that you were originally going to use. Did you sell that off in England?
Keep up the great work and progress pictures.

Regards Brian

Some more boring photos.

Hello Brian, hoping you are safe and well over there.

Still have the Marauder in bits, as I,ve concentrated on this FIA build. Probably will end up selling it to someone who wants a good project.
The pictures only show a very small cross section of what I,ve done. So much has been made, trial fitted, and bagged up, ready to be finally refitted as each part of final assembly is being reached.
The wretched Covid virus has messed a lot of things up for me, as my business has had to be shut for nearly a year now, until such times as it is deemed safe by government and my own conscience to restart !

Regards,
Graham.
