Goodwood 21 Aug, 08. Test day with two original 40s, Ray Bellms P1018 and Adrian Neweys P1010.
As this test day requires to comply to current noise restrictions, ( 105 Db static at 3/4 max revs / 101 drive by at 10 metres ) we were commissioned to design, manufacture and fit our "Wealden" silencer to P1018, whilst P1010 ran an older one piece silencer, two extension silencers and supertraps.
Both cars got through static tests, and both achieved satisfactory drive by results, but performance levels of each car were vastly different. Drive by levels for P1018 was a stable 91 Db/reaching 95 Db when Bellm was achieving 80 second laps on full throttle.
P1010 was clearly suffering loss of power at higher revs, and lap times were much slower even though the driver was putting a mighty effort. Good result for our innovative design.
