I've only run with pca and pboc, but they have always been pretty strict about running with your windows down (for extraction and hand signal purposes, I would think). What kinds of experiences have you all had with that rule and solid (vented) GT40 windows?

I'm 100% certain that the SCCA will require them to be removed. Even though I probably won't run my car in an SCCA class (because it'd get stomped since the SCCA groups it in with SP cars I think) the SCCA sanctions many events in my area including open track days. Many times the SCCA workers are the ones that work the BMW and PCA events so they adhere to SCCA rules which means the windows must be down or not exist.

What would be a good solution for making the window easily removable? I know the '05 cupcars have a solid window that's able to removed (and stll handle high speed). I'd be hesitant to use screws unless I had metal added for it to screw into to keep from eating the fiberglass from taking on and off..

Use rivnuts or threaded inserts in the glass. Once in, they will not come out or wear. You can then use standard countersunk machine screws to hold the windows in and easily remove it without fear of wearing the holes out. www.mcmaster.com has what you need.

I was allowed to run a track day without taking my window out but even if allowed it's wiser to have the window out for ease of hand signals (saftey).

My thought, for cosmetic reasons, is to make a plexi-glass frame in place of the the solid window for track days, 2"-3" wide. In addition, follow Ron's suggestion regarding the rivnuts.
