Triumpn TR6 wanted

Didn't want to post this in the classified section as it's not GT40 related, so hope it's ok to post here.
I'm looking for a Triumph TR6 to purchase as a long term rebuild project. I don't need the engine and gearbox as I'll be fitting a V8.
Obviously cost is an issue here so I'm not looking for a fully up and running car, but in an ideal world a pre-'73 TR6 (tax exempt) in good condition but with a u/s or missing drivetrain would be my goal, but of course, anything would be considered. I'd be quite happy to look at a USA car as the chances are the condition of the body/chassis would be better.
I just thought I'd post here in case anyone knows of a TR6 which may fit the bill? Please feel free to PM/email me. Many thanks

Love the TR6 (and the 2, 3A, 4, 4IRS, 5PI and 6) and I've had 4 in total, regretfully never a 6.

But the motor in the 6 with the ubiquitous Lucas fuel injection (like all Lucas products subject to bouts of extreme eccentricity) is a lovely sounding, good performing lump, far smoother than any V8.

Whatever that's just an opinion, but I would want an original 6, and there would be plenty of spares still around I would have thought (Triumph 2.5 PI saloon etc)

Interesting project though... :)

Keith,

I've had several 6's, you're right, a lovely engine. My last one had a tuned rover V8 in it, it was gorgeous. Similar weight, so handling not affected, standard looking (apart from bonnet louvres) and went like stink. See here (and turn up the speakers) YouTube - tr6 v8

ps at the end you can see my GTD front clip propping up the shed!

Lovely car and I will admit, if any engine ever was perfect for a transplant into a 6, it would have to be a 3.5 for sure...

Then, there's always the Stag v8! :hanged:

I loved the Stag too but always found it very interesting that the 3.0 Ford V6 was the transplant of choice, not the Rover which was very much lighter. I would have thought the same amount of space under the hood as a 6, probably even more. It certainly had the length.

I didn't do the transplant, but it looked a (fairly) easy swap, a bit tight round the headers and some fiddling with the steering column, but not too bad. I've found several other Rover conversions in the UK and am amazed more people haven't done it!
