Been looking at purchasing Andy Burrows T70 uprights for a GT40 build I'm involved with.

upright thread http://www.gt40s.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=000453

These uprights use the Ford Scorpio hubs/brgs. Do any of you Englanders know which car coincides with the scorpio in the states? Andy didn't seem to know.

Another question when purchasing something overseas, what's VAT?

BTW Chris Melia, do you know what happened to the jpg's on the T70 upright thread their all down?

Hello, !

V.A.T. = value added taxes = taxes
=17.5% in the UK...

Prices have increased slightly since last year, but we could provide you with a set for £480.00. If you confirm the week prior to Stoneleigh show, you can collect from our stand.

Kind regards
Andy Burrows

PS. VAT is not paid on export items.

Hi Kalun
Why not get Andy to suply with hubs and bearings?
Sony Image station has changed so images went off.

Your timing is interesting.
(see the latest For Sale thread for uprights)

My understanding is that Scorpio (aka Granada)parts were not used in any US made cars.

Uprights designed around Corvette carriers
and brakes would appear to be more attractive. I believe that's what ERA uses.

so it looks like 640.00 lbs. ($885.00)for the set of four bare. Guess your getting the Englander discount or you getting just 1 pair with brg/hubs?

Shipping is looking like a major expense too, UPS would be about 350.00 lbs. ($500.00). That's one reason I would like to get the brgs./hubs over here, less shipping. Unless I can find a freight company that's less than UPS.

Mike D,

Yes the vette stuff is nice, that's what I'm using on my own one-of uprights. Does this Kustom Metal Works do rears too?

Kalun, If you want to bring something in to the states, see if you can get it on a plane as baggage. If I remember correctly, British Air cost me 450 bucks for about 300 Kg of weight in three crates. However, I would not know how to do it if I were not a passenger. But it may be worth a call to BA. Brian

Hello, !
I took a ZF across the atlantic for about $250.
Corvette....hmmm

The "Scorpio" was sold in the US as the Merkur Scorpio circa 1988-1989. The bearings are available at most any auto parts/bearing supply house. The hubs are no longer available in the US via Ford but are serviced by some specialty import suppliers such as BAT. They should be easy to source from across the pond via the net.

Americans buying in any of the EC countries should not be paying VAT taxes, as long as its going out side the EC. Dont let anyone fool you on this matter. If you live in England the VAT tax is 17 1/2 percent, its like a sales tax in a way. Europeans have always paid high taxes, thats one of the reasons we left Europe in the frist place. Car insurance, gas, etc etc etc are higher in europe than the States.

Right, but you need perhaps to aply for it.
Meaning that it might not be automated, sort of...
Some time it might even turn out the way of you getting a "refund" later on...
Back home or such....
In side EC don´t pay taxes when importing from another EC country.
Only when importintg from outside EC.
So Americans should only pay their own import taxes.

I just shipped a guitar to UK, got three estimates: UPS, 230$, FedEx 140$, finally arranged with a freight forwarder who does business with a guitar maker I know to send them and charge me: 75-90$, I'll know when the bill comes. Shop around, you may be able to beat the big names. And you do get VAT back, it's only for inside the EC.
