Vavle Covers

I picked up a set of old Ford valve covers and only now am wondering if a newer set of heads will fit under them? How about AFR 185's with a stud girdle? If not, does anyone macke a spacer to fit between the head and cover?

Well here is what I was looking for! A bit pricey (5 times what I paid for the valve covers), but looks like they would work. Anyone have any thoughts on this company?

I used an extra thick v/c gasket years ago on my chevy 355 ci circle track car.My engine builder supplied these to me and stated I must use that height to clear the rockers with standard height covers.You may ask around the parts world to see if these are available for ford engines.

How about a "no name" tall valve cover that will clear most everything. They are 1/2 the cost of the standoffs and you won't have two gaskets to seal. Look in Summit catalog summit part number SUM-G3322 $69.95 www.summitracing.com

I agree with Howard. The covers you have look pretty close to the same height as the Powered By Ford ones that I have, but mine are cast and not stamped. I think these would go on AFRs with just rockers, but I am thinking that the rocker girdles will be asking a bit much. But, you never know till you try.

A single large seal like Jim described is OK, but don't even think about going down the path of multiple gaskets: it'll never seal right as they will slide off of each other and leak.

I used Edelbrock cast covers on my AFR's - they are polished with black between the fins on the top & you can get them with or without the Edelbrock logo. They are quite a bit higher than the stamped covers, so should be ok with a stud girdle.

Lynn, where did you get your covers? I want the "powered by Ford" logo on the covers, so I need to find something to use as a space. Good idea on the thick gasket, I'll look for that.

I used the large cast aluminum valve covers from Canton Racing, they were inexpensive (100 or so) and Ihad them black powder coated and they look great. I also used their breather caps with the little K&N filters in them.

You can get nice polished plain alum. valve covers from Summit Racing for ~$60.00. They are large enough to fit any rocker system, etc.

I've currently got the Edelbrock covers, same as pictured above.

Changing over to polished Ford Racing covers.

Getting quotes for front arm bushes, covers etc from Summit Racing etc at the moment. Looks to be much cheaper to bring them in from US.
