we'll miss you......

It's not possible to have a constructive discussion with folks who hate Democrats because they're Democrats- even though they may have things in common with them. We all have to live here, and living here includes putting up with a lot each of us doesn't like.

Jim, those words are the most enlightened in here. Well said Sir. Applies here also, whichever way you flip it.

Well, I'm glad you're not angry anymore, Jim. I was a big fan of JFK when I was a little boy, after all, we were both Catholics.

The thing that bothers me about the Democrats is that they have gotten so far left wing that Roosevelt would be shunned for his public prayers to God, Kennedy for his tax cutting and defense of the unborn, and Johnson,,,,,,ah,,,,, well, maybe for pulling the ears of his dogs.

Their control of the language has made traditional American values radical Right Wing and socialism the accepted way forward.

I'll leave you with my favorite band's opinion of Johnson;

p.s. When do I get to hear "One More Heartache?"

My favorite band, too, or one of them. Along with PBBB, and a few other similar ones. And I still need your snail mail address to send you that CD I did that has "One More Heartbreak" on it, our version. Don't be chicken, it won't blow up.

I do realize how dirty Johnson was, Bob. He stole the election from Coke Stephenson- the election to the Senate that ended up making him President. And Johnson screwed up plenty, both by accident and on purpose- the Vietnam War, for example. But- he did more for the cause of civil rights and equality than any president save Lincoln. And I've done the reading- including all five volumes of Caro's biography to date.

Kennedy? he wasn't incompetent, but he didn't achieve what LBJ did. I agree about the sainthood, but no one wants to see any president martyred.

Roosevelt? again, I don't agree. All of these guys, and all their Republican equivalents, operated in an era of election-stealing which was egregious and wicked. We are only marginally better- witness the Bush 2.0 "victory". We probably ought to have election monitors from South Africa in OUR country. Or maybe from Finland or Denmark. But you can't use the fact that their election may have been illegitimate to detract from their accomplishments- and FDR accomplished a great deal. For example, Bush 2.0 did more than anyone gives him credit for to combat AIDS and other diseases, internationally. Most people don't know that, or if they do, they dismiss it.

You're absolutely right. Both parties seem intent on voting for the fringe and adhering to rigid ideaology. The moderates in each party are demonized from within (RINO, Blue Dogs) and so we now have a Congress that can't wipe it's ass, let alone agree on a single piece of legislation. It's sad that the leadership of Tip O'Neill and Bob Dole have given way to the Harry Reids, Nancy Pelosi, Boehner and McConnell. The latter haven't a clue how to lead. It is, of course, naive to believe that this problem only exists within one party. It's also predictable to see how each party uses the IRS to reward it's friends and punish it's enemies (although some of the recent revelations have taken even that to a new level).
