World emissions

I am somewhat underwhelmed by the UK government and their "Net Zero" policy which is a massive drag on the country when everything we do is immediately wiped out by China setting up new coal fired power stations. Hard to not be a little cynical when we are at a massive 0.9%!!

Would be interesting to see the actual supposed data and study or source behind this graphic. Pollution is not synonymous with carbon, one regional wildfire (whether natural or man influenced) can instantly change these numbers for carbon emissions if they were truly tracking every carbon emission as well as there shouldn’t be any “carbon credits” figured into these statistics. Just my observation from college statistics class is that there isn’t enough quantitative data to base an informed analysis from a USA Today ambiguous graphic nor has the ability to convey any unbiased message from the source that designed it.

Hi Mike ....... I smiled at the pie chart you posted above. I've been following all the figures issued by various bodies and I'm about to add to the pollution by my head exploding !!!! Every graph, chart, report, etc, etc I've studied has different figures, however the UK is very low in all of them. Yet, despite this we are pursuing policies which are costing us all.
In the last few months alone the conflicts in various countries whereby oil depots have been hit by missiles and drones have put huge amounts of black smoke into the air. As one alien said to another looking down at the Earth ........ "I think the human experiment has been a total failure".

Randy, I was surprised they are so high. Russia only has 140m people and large (aging) nuclear generation system. Their generation needs are much lower than Europe/the US as they don't have the data center and EV demand we do.

As to China, China is DRAMATICALLY reducing its coal generation in favor of wind and solar and hydro and other sources. that's not an endorsement of the Chinese political and economic systems, which are atrocious, but the right wing trope about Chinese emissions is misguided. They are moving heavily out of coal.
