Might the problem be a faulty pushrod guide plate? One of the guideplates on my engine had an incorrect size opening. It was clearly the wrong plate and indeed had different markings than all the others. See the picture below.
I reported the problem to Lloyd and E mailed him pictures. He sent me a replacement along with installation directions within a week. Easy fix. No charge. Problem solved.
I did later, as a separate matter, upgrade to the new rocker arms, but that was not the cause of the problem noted in the picture. |

| Re: T&L engines Quality control??? You guys ever seen these? ISKY Racing Cams.
They work... I've seen a pretty fair number of guide plates that do not keep the pushrod aligned properly. I don't know because they're being made offshore now or what. |

Rep Power: 1 | Re: T&L engines Quality control??? Greetings,
I did check the guide plate. It measures the same as the others. I also checked the intake manifold bolt, to make sure it was not hitting the push rod. If things were in a bind, it would show excess rubbing on the push rod/guide plate. I like the idea of adjustable guide plates. Maybe these plates with different rockers would be the way to go.
The main thing here, is, I should not be having these problems. It is my understanding that the red pro comp rocker arms are notorious for being sloppy. With the problems these rockers cause, why keep using them? If something this obvious is let go, what else did they let go?
I sent Lloyd pictures of the rocker arm and of the guide plate, and of the pivot area. No reply at all!! the only reply I got was an offer to buy different rocker arms. Nothing about fixing the problem. Very disappointing. Sure gives me a lot of confidence in the engine.
Thanks
Wayne |

Rep Power: 11 | Re: T&L engines Quality control??? Wayne, the reason they are used is because they are cheap. To sell a stroker SBF for under $5K you have to used the least expensive parts possible with a minimum of labor.
I build custom engines and I couldn't and wouldn't build one anywhere near the low price they are charging.
I do have personal knowledge of a 383 stoker from them that a customer brought to me to install in his street rod. After pulling the engine back out it took nearly $900 in parts and a significant amount of labor to get it where it should have been to begin with. |

Rep Power: 3 | Re: T&L engines Quality control??? Fired my motor off yesterday for the first time, I had to convert to throttle body EFI from the 4 webers it started with. My motor came with Comp Cam rockers and when I had the intake off I checked what I could see under the valley pan and all looks OK as far as the roller lifters. As far as problems I have not had any yet other than a leak from a oil plug in the front of the motor which was easy to fix. No abnormal noises but I fired it off with open headers so its hard to tell. So far so good. As far as cheap parts I don't see any, all parts in my motor can be bought from Summit and all other quality performance parts dealers. The porting on the heads and intake had an incredible amount of time put into them. Here is picture of the motor now. |

Rep Power: 5 | Re: T&L engines Quality control??? Jack: Glad to hear your experience has been positive with T and L. Thus far mine has as well, although the engine has not yet been run for more than a couple of hours.
Curious as to why you switched from the Webers to the EFI. Also curious as to how difficult a conversion it was.
Your engine compartment looks very good |

I am going to Spring mountain for 2 days next week I'll report back. So far it is very strong!! The 435 hp is more than anything I have experienced before.I have a lot to learn before I need any more power. I have a lot of chassis set up work to do.
The oil got hot at the track 130 C. so I added a oil cooler, . Currently running a 6,000 rpm chip, and hit it several times at Thunder hill. When I open the secondaries it better be pointed straight!WOW!

Rep Power: 2 | Re: T&L engines Quality control??? Lloyd and his team built and shipped for us a custom 347 w/ IDF 48s in under 2 months. This was not a crate engine there was substantial custom work, we had a deadline and T & L kept it.
Dyno 500 + HP the client was asking for 450 HP. Perfect thanks Eric thanks Lloyd great doing business with you and looking forward to more.

Real happy for your good luck.
Took my new motor out this weekend for the first time.
Ran strong but rear main leaks like a bitch. Motor is coming out again today.
Do you think T&L will help me or even bother to pick up the phone when I call?
Based on past experience I doubt it. |

Rep Power: 3 | Re: T&L engines Quality control??? Chuck I replaced the webers as the rear deck lid would not shut with the added height and width of the spacers for the manifold, no other reason. Here are a few pictures my neighbor took yesterday after his first ride. I asked him to hold the computer and tell me what the EGO was doing when I stepped on it. He never could respond as he couldn't concentrate with the tires spinning. The motor dyno'ed 572HP@5700rpm with the webers so there are a few more pony's now I am sure. |

| Re: T&L engines Quality control??? Jack - The car looks tuff as hell...
Might be just a tad rich or there's some weird shadows on the back just above the tailpipes..
We'll get together one of these days and do Texas... |

Rep Power: 3 | Re: T&L engines Quality control??? Randy it was running rich but the reason for the black on the back is when the rear deck lid is open the exhaust blow directly on that area. I need to limit the travel of the rear deck so that doesn't happen. |
