i'm guessing they have to get at least 500 into the hands of owners before stuff really calms down. maybe even as many as 1,000 if they're lucky. saturation occurs somewhere in the 1,xxx space and they're buildling 3,500 or so total (nearly all for the US). early production is clearly going...

so about 8.4% margin by my maths. that's more than they make on most (if not all) of the cars the dealership sells. i was under the impression via rumors that they were getting screwed by FoMoCo on these things - that's clearly not the case, which makes the auction/price-gouging all the more...

i got some inside skinny on the delays. my source says it's not the standard radio that's the problem, but rather each car is supposed to ship with a brochure. so they've had to hold up the production line at a cost of six figures per day for a $0.89 part instead of the standard radio, a $35...
