Republicans, what is wrong with you?

Craig, "slightly left" over here is positively Communist to you guys, such is the drift to the right that you have taken over the last twenty years...

The general point of the piece seems valid, the right wing have sought to dumb down your political process, of that even you can't disagree.

Graham,

That was brilliant!

Craig, I suggest you go back and read Grahams post again, "with an open mind"

Craig,

I see you finally looked up "the stupid party", I am supprised you had not heard that before, it's been around as long as I can Remember. But then again if you only watch Fox..............

Speaking of Fox, I can not think of a better reason for the "stupid party" lable. The fact that so many concervatives watch their "infomercials" that are so obviously bias and even missleading (sometimes untrue) and believe it, need I say more!

The folks at Fox alway pride themselfs on their high ratings and take shots at how poorly liberal attempts to copy them fail.

Craig, this is very true. It is because most liberals are albe to see it for what it is, and do not watch! I see their low ratings as a badge of honor for the "Smart Party".

fact is the republicans sent the dems home crying in November by moving further to the right...nice try:laugh:<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

Craig, as far as your comments on the November elections, are you aware that since WWII, this was the first time in an off year election that only the House changed sides.

Every other time both the House and Senate flipped in off year elections. Without the Tea Party morons you would have taken the Senate as well.

So now the left has the Senate and the Oval Office and you think this a resounding victory? You think this a victory because Fox told you it was?

THINK AGAIN!

Craig,

The piece was actually written with a good degree of sang-froid. It sought to look at the issues facing the Republican party and address how it can move forward. As a piece of journalism it is excellent. Neither is it sensationalist, nor is it overbearingly left wing. yes it is someone's opinion, but then, isn't everything?

You can't consistently condemn something as left wing fluff without actually considering the ink on the page. If you do that, and refuse to listen to your detractors, then there really is no hope for you.

Cheers,

Graham.

Unfortunately, Graham, I fear that Craig and the rest of the radical-right movement are already too far under the control of those who insist that they "...drink the kool-aid". From Wikipedia:

"Drinking the Kool-Aid" is a phrase and metaphor, used in the United States and Canada, that means to become a firm believer in something, to accept an argument or philosophy wholeheartedly or blindly without critical examination.

The term originated with the November 1978 Jonestown Massacre,[1][2] where members of the Peoples Temple were said to have committed suicide by drinking Kool-Aid laced with cyanide.[3]"

They have chosen to be closed minded, to listen only to the rhetoric of the radical conservative movement, which no more represents the mainstream citizen of the U.S.A. than does the radical liberal contingency. Their refusal to see the logic in moderation leaves them firmly in that group to whom I refer as "...none so blind as those who will not see".

He/they are so firmly bound by their idealogical fallacies that they cannot use the power of observation to give fair consideration to anyone else's point of view. They are in essence a "closed loop", into which is allowed only the information that already coincides with their pre-conceived notions.

They have done this to themselves, and, sadly, there really is no hope for them.

Cheers from Doug!!

Doug, I want to disagree with you, in the hope that you are wrong. The trouble is, I can't...

I (like you) am neither Right / Left / Repub / Demo / Conservative / Liberal. I am a card carrying member of The Common Sense Party (boy do I wish that it existed)...

The closed loop that you speak of is here to stay it seems. A self fulfilling prophecy born out of lazy politics and soundbites.

It saddens me

As I said, this is the first time since WWII that only the House changed sides. Every other time either both the House and Senate changed sided or neither changed sides.

Either way, The Democrats hold both the Oval Office and the Senate!

The Republicans holds only the House, you say that the Democrats went "home crying"?

I think not!

Craig, before the election, most felt that the right would take both the House and the Senate, but through the tea party idiocy and just plain stupidity (Witches/Loonies), they managed to lose the Senate.

Well Jim every election has some sort of historical meaning...I guess it depends on what you're looking for.

It was the biggest gain for one party since voters repudiated the "Do-Nothing Republican Congress" in 1948 by giving Democrats a 75-seat pickup.

It was the biggest setback for a president in a midterm election since Franklin D. Roosevelt's Democrats lost 72 seats in 1938.

White House photo

Warren G. Harding was the last president to lose this many House seats in his first midterm election.

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>* President Obama lost more seats in his first midterm election than any president since Warren G. Harding's Republicans suffered a 77-seat setback in 1922.

* The Democrats' four years in control of the House of Representatives was the shortest tenure for one party atop that chamber since the Republicans were voted out in 1954 after just two years in charge.

* House Democrats will have their smallest number of members since they had 188 after the 1946 election.

Wisconsin Supreme Court Election: Kloppenburg ekes out victory; Recount more than likely

Post by dane101 on 4/6/2011 12:48pm

The last remaining Wisconsin precinct in Lake Mills has apparently split roughly 700 votes in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race down the middle. That split allows JoAnne Kloppenburg to keep a margin of somewhere between 220 and 230 votes above incumbent Justice David Prosser (there are conflicting reports as to the precise number, but they all fall within that spectrum). The next step is very likely a recount. According to News 3 reporter Jessica Arp on Twitter there is no automatic recount trigger in Wisconsin and it needs to be called by a campaign. Arp adds "if vote within one half of one percent (about 7,000) cost of recount will lie with the state/counties."QUOTE

*******
In a very close vote, it appears that the Democratic Judge has defeated the incumbent Republican judge, giving the Democrats a 5-4 majority in the Wisconsin Supreme court!

Even if the vote does not hold up, this vote will be seen as a huge defeat for Governer Walker and his attempt to shut down the Wisconsin Teachers Union, as just last Feb, in the primary election, Republican Prosser received 55% of the vote, compared to the Dem Kloppenburgs 25%. But this was before Walker attacked teachers!

It looks like Walkers/Republicans bid to attack their political enemies has failed!

This is a good example of how much Governer Walker and the Republicans really care about the Wisconsin budget!!!!!

Wisconsin’s Gov. Scott Walker stepped in a PR minefield by giving a job to the unqualified son of a large donor. It was reported that he had hired an unqualified donor’s son to a cushy $81,500 a year job. Today, the Milwaukee Wisconsin Journal Sentinel, the paper which first wrote of the hire yesterday, is reporting that Walker has demoted the young man in response.

Take a look at the much more qualified candidates that Walker overlooked:
“Brian Deschane – the 27-year-old son of a prominent lobbyist – was demoted on Tuesday following a public uproar over his appointment to a cushy job earning $81,500 per year working in Gov. Scott Walker’s administration.

But check out the two candidates Deschane beat out to get the position as head of environmental and regulatory affairs in the state Department of Commerce:

The first, Oscar Herrera, is a former state cabinet secretary under Republican Gov. Scott McCallum with a doctoral degree and eight years’ experience overseeing the cleanup of petroleum-contaminated sites.

The second, Bernice Mattsson, is a professional engineer who served since 2003 in the post to which Deschane was appointed.

By contrast, Deschane has no college degree, little management experience and a couple of drunken-driving convictions. His father represents a trade group that gave more than $121,000 to Walker and his running mate.”

Wisconsin is a front runner in what's going to be happening all around the country...

So Craig, you said that this union breaking thing is going to happen "all around the country".

How's that going, I'm not seeing any of this on the news. I'm really hopeing that the Republicans attack teachers all over...................cause it works so well!

Well Guys,

It's been a very interesting day. First the Wisconsin thing and now............

I just heard that Glenn Becks show is cancelled, ending in the next few months. This whole episode has given me a slightly improved view of concevatives.

I could not understand how anyone could watch him without the strong feeling that he was "no longer operating in reality". Well at least some folks felt that way, with his ratings down 32% in only the last three months.

Additionally, I read that 300 advertisers (seems like an awfully large# to have in the first place) have left, not wanting their company associated with him.

It seems that a sky is falling/conspiracy rant only seems interesting for a short time. But as time goes by and the sky does not fall, the conspiracies get bigger, and odder, even concervative can't take it anymore.

I fine that somewhat reassuring, but there are stll a lot of viewers.

Anyway, today was a good day in the struggle between good and evil.

Now now JIM, I thought we weren't dealing in absolutes anymore ;)

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Right you are, Graham. However, in no area are there as many shades of gray as in politics, including absolute black and absolute white. It's those "absolutes", the "lunatic fringe" on the ends of the curve, that have brought about the polarized political atmosphere of "absolutely" in D.C. The moderate citizen doesn't really have much influence any more, it's all in the hands of those on the absolute fringe...who, in their defense, believe as firmly in their heart that they are right, as do we beleive we are.

(.....my apologies for the 15 second promo before the event)

Craig,

40 votes, you must be so proud.

In less than two months the Republicans in Wisconsin have taken a 55% to 25% lead and turned it into a 40 vote lead, very impressive!

What do you think about Gov Walker giving an important state job to the unqualified son of a big donor? Passing up several well qualified candadates!

Then one day later when caught, he then demoted the unqualified son.

So Craig, this is a $81,500 a year job, plus great benifits that they are trying to take from the teachers.

What do you think about this?

It seems to me that Walker cares little about cutting the budget and even less about the state of Wisconsin. (unqualified worker, paid big bucks!)
