Help - GT40 Space Frame Drawings and Plans

Hi
Excuse me as a bit of a novice here. Can anyone tell me what guage steel should be used for the construction of the chassis, based on the plans I have seen on this thread ?

Help please !!!!!
Hello my name is Nick I am from Russia. I really want to make a replica of the Ford GT with their own hands. Please do send in the mail ([email protected]) drawing frames in good quality (the more information the better)
Thanks in advance!

Hoping to revive this thread, for it is very interesting and I am looking at building my own space frame for a GT40.

Integrator, I am a noob when it comes to GT40s, but I have been in the car building field for a while. I noticed your post on how the frame is very strong in the middle but weak in the front and in the rear. That seems to be a good thing because those are your "crush zones" as they call them at GM. Too strong all over and a crash will kill you from shock (the "crush zones" act as a cushion). Too weak all over and the car crushes like a pop can. I was wondering if you had considered this when you were talking about making the frame a uniform strength?

There are two different sets of drawings here in the forum. Drawings for sale can be gotten from GTSTUNING, Darren George. I have all three and plan to combine the best of each. Also the dimentions are different on all three and that needs to be resoulved. They very by as much as an inch and a half, some are in meteric and others sae. There are others out there who have developed their own. One person did one in tube and is now working on an aluminum mono.

Are any plans that are reliably accurate? or reliably performance worthy? I can do fine tuning in one of my cad programs or using simulation software, but I was hoping someone already had some plans that were tested and true (either in real life or by software)? If not I'll start compiling some of the ones like in this thread and try to do a mock up on the computer testing different suspension mounts, setups, etc. while trying to keep it true to the old GT40s.

The bodies available tend to have different dimentions so it is best to have the body on hand before you start to build. Measure the body and adjust to it. richard

What Richard said. I think all the manufacturers are a tiny bit different so pick who you're going to buy the bodywork off and either purchase it or get critical measurements off them.

I think Darrens drawings are the only ones actually based on a real chassis. Although I believe he is thinking of stopping selling them due to the lack of protection on them and instead producing a 'flatpack' of pre-cut steel and instructions. It is possibly worth mentioning however that while they are of a 'real' chassis I'm reasonably sure none of the GT Forte's have been completed yet.

Oh and to answer a previous question, steel thickness in the replicas varies from 1.5mm to 2.5mm depending on manufacturer!

Re: Any help please

Hi guys

I found these on the web years ago, I don't know were? I cannot guarantee their accuracy but they do look ok.

Hope this is cool with everyone, just trying to help a guy out.
Regards

Chris.

I love this information and it is a pity that you have to take photographs to enlarge the quality.

Now -David Brown- of Classic Car Developments in New Zealand has a faithfull replica using drawings of a monocoques it would be helpful for the brainstrust to advise where you can obtain drawings of a monocoques/ chassis.body layout.

You want Monocoque chassis drgs like the originals? Why not ask David Brown. The answer he will give you will save a lot of time searching.

SJH,
I notice in your posted member details you have " GT40 : Dreaming."
That says it all to us, if you think you will get a full set of monocoque drawings here. Do you really think you will get this type of information for free ? Pff...
PS. I have a monocoque chassis.

I know I shouldnt, but I have to ask...have you started celebrating the new year a bit early:)...caps lock on and spelling mistakes?

seriously, I know David Brown fairly well & I also know a bit about how much research & groundwork he had to do to get where he is now with all the stuff he builds, if you are not prepared to do the same or use your smarts to build your own then the only options are get a line of income that will enable you to buy a car from the vendor of your choice or give up.... Im not normally that blunt to people, but I have used up this years supply of 'nice guy' cookies....

I have purchased an untouched GT40 kit. Lots of bits, fortunately the kit has not been worked on yet. There is a chassis I am not happy with and suspention parts I am not happy with.

Are there any drawings of a good chassis/suspention available to purchase. We have a large race community, i would like to set my car up for racing. I have a competition clutch and racing rotors and calipers. I have a 302 that will be worked to get max HP. I have the Audi box that I will change to a Porche box.

Please any help or advice will be most welcome.
Hi Kevin I see it has been some years since you posted this I have the same car which I need to change the suspension from the cortina / Granada set up and just wondering what you ended up doing
