It's Official - New GT

Not really. Closest it comes to looking like a GT40 is when it is wearing a heritage paint scheme. It's a tribute to the original but I don't think anyone is going to mistake one for the other.

Gentlemen-
As an '05 FGT and SPF GT40 owner, I've been trying so hard to keep an open mind...
I was so looking forward to seeing the next generation- but after studying it, I don't think this car should even be called a Ford GT..
Nothing about it is reminiscent of the GT40 or the FGT....
In fact, it looks more like an aventador and a vette had a baby...
I do like the open tunnels, I guess..
But the gratuitous angles, the V6 and the ipad dashboard etc etc..
I find myself TRYING to like it....
Sadly, to me, it looks like something out of TRON..

GTKURT will you be at Amelia this year, we are gathering old and new GT40S and Ford Gt's.
Come on down, the snow is killing me....

2 of the key hidden features that I've noticed is the rear buttress, and the fact that the cockpit is inset, eliminating the need for the door roof cut-outs.

Having owned both an FGT and now a GT40, I don't see any resemblance in the new car either Kurt. I'm looking forward to seeing one in the flesh and I bet they look great. I'm a car guy and I really can't think of any supercar I can't find something to appreciate about.

I like it.

This car was designed to bring Ford back to Le Mans (In GT not P).

They will have to sell 1000 street examples.

I agree with their choice of TT V6 as in endurance racing it can make maximum HP allowed with lower weight and better fuel consumption which is Key these days as it allows fewer pit stops and in some races total fuel is regulated. These engines can also be tuned to make huge torque which is what you need to overcome drag which is what downforce producing shapes also create. The problem all car companies have when designing cars that will race in GT is that, unlike us they have to fit a cockpit that is wide enough to fit two large people. This width is more than the minimum required by the GT rules and it this case will present more frontal area than for example our car and also effect carving away the front fenders to channel air to the rear wing. LMP's are shaped the way they are for a reason. To move air around the cockpit, not over it to the rear wing. Our car for example is much closer to LMP1 so much so that we can make enough downforce without having to raise the rear wing to it maximum allowed height thus reducing drag and increasing VMAX with regulated HP. The key is aerodynamic efficiency ratio, how much total (downforce less lift) downforce can you make for similar unit of drag. Our design will be more efficient than this one for that but is more extreme looking. This new Fort GT should work very well against Ferrari's 458 GT. It's carbon center section is better than Ferrari's alum chassis, similar to McLaren's, but as both have alum rather than CF subframes the base car will be heavier than our's which is an issue as even with required minimum weight using ballast which you can put very low down in the center of the car vs heavier front and rear subframes to reduce CG and polar mass for better handling. Our's does cost a bit more than theirs will... :)

For comparison.

Being he waited over six years to make his first post - and seeing where he's from - I tend to believe him. Plus, with all the private facilities Ford has would they need some dragstrip in Florida?

Perhaps a perusal of the staff on the GT project will shed some light. Do you possibly suspect that some of the staff look in here once in a while to see reactions/interests?

Exactly. And dragstrip performance is going to be pretty far down on the pecking order for a car that is built to take Ford back to LeMans.

Don't want to get into a pissing contest..but how far from Desoto drag strip are you Dave??? It is 10 min from my house...and I know some of the fellows that work there..they all had to sigh their life away and were told to keep their mouths shut. The only info I could get is the GT40 was there for testing.
It is second hand info that came from a reliably source. Just thought I would share with everyone...next time I will keep my mouth shut.

Not true.

Don't worry about it Walt. Dave Banister runs the FGT forum and would know if the new car was there or not. I will say if you came on his forum and offered a curt response like his was as your first post, you would in short order get a less than friendly response from him and probably shown the front door. The internet is a funny place. I'm just surprised Dave lowered himself enough to even join a kit car forum let alone actually share some of his expert advice in these matters.
