SCCA Legal GT40

Greetings. This is my first time speaking up after lurking for years. I hope to make some new friends here over time. Since listening to the radio in the 60's to the GT40 race updates, I've always been a GT40 fan. Well it's finally happened. An RHD, wide body, SPF Mark I is being shipped to me as we speak. It will be a big project as I'll be doing the install to include an SCCA legal cage/safety equipment, RBT, Rebello 302 etc. I hope to talk to some of you in the future. Please wish me luck on this project. Thanks much. Larry

Larry - Welcome to GT40s.com and the GT40 community! Congratulations on your purchase!

Re: New Guy

Congrats Larry
I wish you well as you start the finishing run. Do you have an 'Elmer' in the area to assist, guide, and check your work? Please show your progress in the build section of GT-40 and everyone loves pictures.

Re: New Guy

Congratulations and welcome Larry.... That is gonna be a real looker! I have been contemplating painting my car the same colors. 1051ish! Love it! I see the hint of snorkels on the rear deck??? Love to see more pics!!!

Re: New Guy

SCCA legal cage and fuel cells are installed and approved by tech inspector. I made some compromises here. Most notable is the position of the forward down tubes. I wanted a future owner to be able to cut the cage out and return the car to "stock" trim so I did not cut into the dash or doors in the hinge areas. I also wanted to have a lateral bar near the dash. Mine is removable. Also the door openings are traversed by forward connecting tubes as required by the rules. All lines of sight are unhindered but make no mistake, this car is for a small and wirery driver like me. This cage, too, is very strong. Now on to the kill switch and fire system. First, I must qualify my 240Z for the Runoffs at Indy. Decisions, decisions!

Re: New Guy

Would you like me to move this thread to the Build Logs forum?
If so, what would you like the thread title to be?

Re: New Guy

I'm curious, is it normal practice to place a bar across under the steering wheel and over the thighs? That seems like it has the potential to pin the driver if that bar was slightly crushed down to the belly pan?

It is absolutely required by the SCCA and I believe FIA. It keeps the cage in place should you be T-Boned,
