Type of battery

What is the best type of battery for a SB302. 380HP. MSD/Webers ?
I have actually a 12V 72Ah 680A VARTA type but when engine is hot, it doesn't not always start the engine.

Too much initial advance?
Float level too high, or fuel percolation?

Load test the battery. Check the current draw while cranking if good it's the starter or a connection !!

The actual amp hour is low.. its advantage is the current it can supply for its size / weight
Thats how i understand it...
if im wrong then, please others on this forum correct me...

Old skool tuners trick, how much can you run.... till it won't crank when hot. Just back off 2 degrees.

Lithium batteries have the ability to deliver the huge current demanded by a starter motor, just not for a very long time.

I run a pc950 battery. It got half the cca of the pc925 and it is still more then enough to crank the large v8. (And it saves some weight)

Lithium batteries cannot be charged as though they were common Lead-Acid or AGM batteries. There are Lithium batteries out there that have an internal Battery Management System (BMS) and those would require no additional equipment and could be installed in place of a LA or AGM battery.

Fred, this thread went of track. Please use a led acid of some sort. Have you checked your cable size and connections, load tested your battery and checked the starter current draw ??
