930 CV Spacers Exist?

Doing a custom build with C5 uprights and G96 transaxle.

I have in my possession 930 half shafts and C5 half shafts.

I’ve pulled the 930 inners off and placed them onto the C5 shafts.

However, I’m still left with shafts that are too short. About 3” actually. I found some EMPI CV joints that look to be about 1.5in in thickness which are bigger than the standard I think at 1in.

I’m trying to avoid buying new longer shafts as they’re prohibitively expensive.

Toying with the idea of a spacer much like a wheel spacer. Instead of the bolts going all the way through they’d be offset. I know it’s possible.

I’m thinking about 3d printing first, then maybe trying steel or aluminum?

The power of keywords. Your page was one of the first to pop up when searching this topic. Those prices for two axles aren’t bad at $319.

I’m looking at this from lots of factors, either way I have to buy c5 axles which are dirt cheap, then some 930 CVs, also cheap now.

At this point I have options. I’m still curious about a spacer. Interestingly enough the driveshaft shop did nearly exactly what I’m suggesting on my FFR coupe. It’s an LT1 with tr6060 and ford diff. They supplied two 930 CVs with a billet aluminum piece machined to mate the 930 cv with the tr6060 yoke.

So here I am wondering if I can do basically the exact same thing, similar to wheel spacers. 3in round block of aluminum with the holes machine through to mount to the diff, then the holes offset and threaded to mount the CV.

You can make spacers, of course they won't be free, but they may be fine or they might destroy your car.
There must be force in the joint, both from the torque and the angle of the driveshaft, stuffed if I can work out what it'd be though.
Moving the joint further away from the gearbox is increasing the leverage on the bearing in the transmission / flange again it may be fine, might wear faster, again I have no real idea other than a spacer that wide looks sketchy to me.

That’s a good point about the bearing. I’ll email pacific today and see what length they recommend. At this point I’m jumping the gun a lot but this requires prep and planning.

Thanks again.

Kyle,

Drive Shaft Shop sells 1/2” spacers. I made two custom spacers with Sendcutsend out of high strength steel. I had to have them surface grinded, but sendcutsend I think can now machine parts so they can make them up.

Here is a link to my build thread, post 449 shows the spacers and measurements…
