Keith ,
I am opening a bottle of champagne tonight to celebrate a small victory. I will go to the courts on the day they are facing justice and probably you will see me on the news as I will be thrown out for lack of silence, and probably charged with disorderly conduct. I think the public gallery will be a ticket affair with postal applications only.
I would have thought they might have used Wembley stadium as the court and the gallows returned to their rightful place back beside Marble Arch. In these austere times if they need a contribution for the wood for the gallows, I will gladly pay for them to be built. In fact I will actually build them myself and use the compulsive lyer towrag ex mp Woolas to prove the gallows intead of the customary two centum weight sack of sand in days of old. Thats 224lbs for some people not familiar with real weights and measures and in todays confusing world equates to 100 kilos. About the weight of Elliot Morley or Jim Devine.

Does any expect they will tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth ?
Not a chance on that one. Maybe they should suffer the Waterboard treatment as apparently some hotshot lawyer has said it's OK to use to get to the truth !

So long as they used the water from the duckpond or preferably the sludge from the cleaned moat for the Waterboarding then that should be acceptable (especially to the general public)

But the truth - these guys do not know the meaning of the word as they have been in politics.

The MPs continue to rip shit of the financial priviledges they managed to vote in for themselves.
MPs pocket rents from homes paid for by taxpayer - Telegraph

Meanwhile another soldier lost his life yesterday (Remembrance Sunday). It sort of puts this into some sort of weird perspective that almost pushes me to the brink.
Pick up your pen - send your feelings to Cameron and Glegg. You are failing those who come after you if you do nothing.

David,

I agree with you re the gallows. However, Woolas should be second in line for the testing. I think Blair should be the first. Hopefully, they will not work perfectly first time, allowing him to swing a while before he shuffles off the mortal coil...

Three hundred and forty five deaths in Afghanistan. 345. That is just the soldiers from the U.K. as well.
It's not getting any better so write you letters to your prime minister. Tell him you hold him personally responsible for each soldier killed or maimed.
Tell him it's none winnable. Ask him to hazard a guess as to how many casualties there will be by Christmas?

Dave,
What many people have been waiting for, justice (surrounding MP's so called "expenses").

I hope they get their next meal behind steel bars - but don't hold your breath.

For our American brethren the Crown Court here in the U.K. has the power to lock these 'people' up 'until death do us part' and seize their total goods and wealth in this world (and some say in the next as well) . This trial was not supposed to happen as these scum politicians tried to hide behind Paliamentary Priviledge saying that no court in the land had the right to bring them to book. The Supreme Court (above the Crown Court) decided they were to be tried like the rst of us as commoners - some say common thieves.
There really is a ground swell of opinion to lock all cheating and thieving Members of Parliament up for a very lengthy sentence and seize all the money they own. Would that it would happen.

MPs have submitted more than £115,000 worth of illegitimate expense claims since the introduction of tough new rules

MPs have submitted more than £115,000 worth of illegitimate expense claims since the introduction of tough new rules designed to clean-up the Commons, it has been revealed.
A list of 1,574 claims, rejected by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa) in the space of five months, shows that politicians have attempted to claim back money for their mortgage repayments, first-class travel and excessive hospitality.
The document, obtained by The Times newspaper, which lists a total of rejected claims worth £116,359, also reveals how parliamentarians submitted duplicate claims and did not provide suitable documentary evidence to back up their claims.
Follow us on Facebook Follow us on Twitter RSS
One MP was refused £338 for a shredder, while another tried to claim £1,057 for advertising. A third also attempted to claw back £1,085 for "contingencies".
All claims, which were submitted between May and September this year, were refused by Ipsa - the body set up to administer MPs expense claims.
The unsuccessful claims amounted to 7% of the total submitted by MPs during the period.
The identity of the MPs who wrongly claimed the items will remain secret following an agreement made in the summer with the independent watchdog and receipts will also not be published with overall claims.
Labour MP John Mann, who criticised the shortcomings of the old expenses system, said: "We've ended up in the worst of all possible worlds where we have a body that doesn't particularly do what it was supposed to do.
"Everything should be out in the open. The more transparency the better. The problem occurs when you try to hide things away. If you want to rebuild confidence it has to be be totally transparent. It also means publishing receipts."

In the time approaching Christmas, please have a look at this site iCasualties | Operation Enduring Freedom | Afghanistan and think about what it all means. How many families will only have memories on Christmas day instead of a phone patch to those in harms way in that shit hole, called Afghanistan, this year?
Keep sending letters to your politicians urging them to walk out of Afghanistan tomorrow. You might just get a reply....

These bastards will not listen :
MPs claiming £1m a month in expenses

MPs were paid £3.1 million in expenses in the first three and a half months after the General Election, details published by a watchdog showed today.

10:12AM GMT 02 Dec 2010 14 Comments

A breakdown of 22,000 claims submitted between May 7 and August 31 by 576 out of the 650 MPs was released by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa).

They are the first payments approved by the body set up to enforce tighter rules on MPs' use of taxpayers' cash in the wake of last year's expenses scandal.

Although a description of each claim will be published, Ipsa has decided it would be too expensive for it to release copies of individual receipts.

<!-- BEFORE ACI -->Related Articles

It was that detailed information which allowed some of the previous wrongdoing by MPs to be exposed in revelations which rocked Westminster.
The figures came out as anger among MPs over Ipsa's handling of the system was set to be renewed in the Commons.
A backbench motion condemning the ''unnecessarily high costs and inadequacies'' of the new system and calling for a ''simpler'' alternative will be debated later.
Ipsa has tried to dampen criticism by declining to publish rejected claims - reported to number 1,574 so far - until the MPs and staff have got more used to the system.
Prime Minister David Cameron claimed £2,581.13, including £2,408.75 for an annual subscription to the Parliamentary Resources Unit, which conducts research for mainly Conservative MPs.
Mr Cameron made six further claims, all for stationary. They included £94 on House of Commons headed A4 paper.
The Chancellor, George Osborne, claimed £582.62. His biggest single item of expenditure was £145.70 on headed paper followed by a £129 train journey from London to Macclesfield to visit his Tatton constituency.
He spent £96.08 on a printer cartridge and £21 hiring a hall for a constituency surgery meeting. Mr Osborne also spent about £25 on local newspapers.

MPs' expenses

<!-- googleon: all -->
secretly 'rectification' deals are finally made public

Details of dozens of complaints against MPs' expenses claims that have been secretly resolved over recent years have finally been published.

Mr Tredinnick argued that the outlay on ''Solarfire V'' was justified as he had a long-standing interest in astrology Photo: GETTY

4:28PM GMT 09 Dec 2010

One member quietly repaid £755 claimed on expenses for software that used astrology to diagnose medical conditions, while another handed back costs for maintaining an Aga-style cooker at a house he had rented out.

Under the so-called "rectification" procedure, standards commissioner John Lyon has the power to fast-track investigations when the MP involved admits they have broken rules and he does not regard the matter as too serious.

However, the practice has come under fire because the allegations and his conclusions were not always made public - until now.

<!-- BEFORE ACI -->Related Articles

Mr Lyon has disclosed that 16 cases were rectified in 2008/9, 14 in 2009/10 and 10 so far in 2010/11.
They include that of Tory MP for Bosworth David Tredinnick, who was subject to a complaint last year that he had spent £755.33 of taxpayers' money on a computer programme providing ''interpretations and analyses of a person's condition based on astrology''.
Mr Tredinnick argued that the outlay on ''Solarfire V'' was justified as he had a long-standing interest in astrology and complementary medicine that had been expressed in parliament.
''Solarfire V provides interpretation in both Western and Indian astrology and it is easy to switch between the two systems,'' he wrote in a letter to the commissioner.
''As a result I now have a better understanding of the Indian system of Medicine, Ayurvedic, its definitions of personalities as being Vata or Airy, Kapha or Earthy or Pitta--Fiery types and how these personalities are reflected in Rashi and Navamsha Indian astrological readings."
He continued: ''All this information is helpful in discussions and debates in my work in Parliament. I have not yet made a major speech on the subject in the House because of prejudice but one day I will. In discussions I use this information frequently.''
But after a lengthy exchange of correspondence with the commissioner, Mr Tredinnick agreed to repay the cash, sparing him a full-blown probe.
Ex-Tory MP for Totnes Anthony Steen - who accused people of being ''jealous'' of his substantial expenses-funded house in Devon after being criticised for excessive claims last year - was also on the list.
He returned a total of £561, which included a bill for maintenance on a Rayburn range cooker in the rented-out coach house that had been ''inadvertently'' submitted.
Many of the rectified complaints relate to episodes where MPs have used parliamentary stationery to contact constituents for political purposes, and they often involve small sums of money.
Other cases include:
:: Ex-Labour MP Janet Anderson overclaimed petty cash totalling £5,700 between 2005 and 2008, because she did not realise she was not allowed to claim for Westminster office and constituency office
:: Labour deputy leader Harriet Harman handing back £13.20 for prepaid House of Commons envelopes and stationery to send letters to non-constituents
:: Sadiq Khan, now shadow justice secretary, repaying £173 for letters sent to constituents just before the general election campaign began
:: Boris Johnson, now Tory mayor of London, failing to register 33 shares worth £1 each in Finland Station Ltd. The then Henley MP apologised and said he was not ''aware that his shares had any pecuniary value''.
:: Former Lib Dem MP Willie Rennie repaid £2,647 in May this year that he overclaimed for office space and a printing machine that had been shared with his local party.
The commissioner also disclosed for the first time details of his current investigations.
Lib Dem David Laws is still being investigated over the accommodation claims that sparked his resignation as chief secretary to the Treasury.
Ex-Labour MPs Anthony Wright and Margaret Moran are both being probed over expenses claims - with the latter also subject to a police inquiry on separate allowances allegations.
Labour's Andy Slaughter and Simon Danczuk are being examined over use of pre-paid envelopes, and Alison Seabeck over declaration of interests.
Four of Mr Lyon's inquiries into expenses allegations have been suspended while criminal proceedings are considered. They relate to ex-Labour MPs Jim Devine, David Chaytor, and Elliot Morley - who have been charged - and serving Labour MP Denis MacShane - who has not.
A probe into ex-Tory MP David Wilshire's use of allowances has been put on hold because he is unwell.
The commissioner has investigated and rejected 30 complaints against MPs since 2008/09.

It stands to reason that if any MP uses the excuse for expenses cheating "I didn't understand the rules" then they should not be allowed to make them ever again.

In other words they should be kicked out and Parliamentary Privilege withdrawn period.

from the Telegraph:

MEPs award themselves £91,000 tax free expenses a year

MEPs will next year take home £91,000 in tax free expenses without having to provide any proof of expenditure as part of an increased pay and perks package.

A backdated salary rise combined with increased allowances means that all 736 European Parliament deputies will receive a New Year's lump sum gift of over £5,400 despite pay freezes and cuts for the voters they represent across the EU.

It will take their net personal income to more than £170,000 in 2011.

The payment, already dubbed a "Christmas bonus" by European Parliament sources, includes a tax free, cash lump sum of expenses worth £3,096, which be paid into their accounts by January 1, backdated from July 2009.

<!-- BEFORE ACI -->Related Articles

MEPs will be automatically given £90,876 in "daily subsistence" and in "general expenditure" expenses next year without having to provide any receipts or proof of expenditure, an increase of 2.3 per cent.
The two allowances are handed out at a flat rate without any requirement to show that any money has been spent by MEPs.
The increase in the controversial expenses comes alongside a two per cent pay increase for 2011 that will take the salary of MEPs to £80,829 next year, including a backdated sum of £2,314.
The pay rise, which comes at a time of painful austerity cuts for national parliaments, will mean that British MEPs will next year earn £15,000 more than their colleagues in the House of Commons, who enjoyed only a 1.5 per cent rise.
While pay and perks payments continue to rise over two per cent for MEPs, official data shows that the average annual salary for a British worker grew by just 0.3 per cent to £25,900 in 2010. Most company directors and chief executives had pay cuts of nearly 14 per cent in the same 2009 to 2010 period.
Martin Callanan, leader of the European Conservatives, said that the parliament's administration, known as the "bureau", should not be increasing pay and perks for already generously paid MEPs.
"The European Parliament really knows how to shoot itself in the foot. MEPs are not crying out for extra funds in order to do their jobs so why is the parliament's bureau nodding through further increases?" he said.
Parliament administrators were last night (MON) expected to rubberstamp the pay rise proposals and increases to allowances. "This is envisaged as a routine indexation," said an official. "This is nothing out of the ordinary."
Nigel Farage, Ukip's leader, said: "At a time of austerity, by demanding this pay increase the EU bureaucrats have really stuck the two fingers up to the British taxpayer."
Proposals seen by The Daily Telegraph will give MEPs a "daily subsistence" cash payment of £257 for each of the 184 days the parliament sits next year. "General expenditure allowance", which is supposed to help MEPs run their local office, will be increased to £3,627 a month. Both allowances are automatically paid directly into bank accounts belonging to MEPs.
Arlene McCarthy, a Labour MEP, defended the increased allowances. "I have to pay more for my accommodation in Strasbourg and Brussels than I did a year ago so it seems only reasonable that the allowance which covers goes up. It is justifiable providing it is genuinely for costs incurred in doing your job as an MEP," she said.
But Sian Herbert, of the Open Europe pressure group, criticised the increases to allowances that are paid without receipts to show that MEPs had actually incurred the expenditure.
"MEPs are already entitled to generous expenses, far more than their national counterparts. This really does not represent good value for taxpayers," she said.
"The sheer amount of money on offer to MEPs increases the incentive to make as much out of the system as possible."
