Well I just could not bring myself to spend the money on a manufacturers kit so I found a Kellison gt40 and junked the vw stuff. In the process of building my own chassis with a built 289 and o1x gearbox with c5 suspension. do envy you guys building the mfg.kits and watch all of you. I still have lots of questions also. Thanks for reading

Alan, I may suggest you to redoo the sealing of the intake manifold.

The quantity of silicon sealant is way too much, if it is going out of the sealing plan on the outside of the engine, you can imagine that it is the same situation inside the engine. With time and the action of the oil, the extra material will fall down inside the lifter valley and you will get a lot of chance to plug the oil pump or other galleries.
It is just a suggestion ... :)

Thanks for the suggestion. As I did this most of the sealer was toward the outside of the edge. The cork gaskets never seal.well so I use a good amount of sealer so it squeezes out the oit side. But thanks for looking out for me!

Building my custom GT40 replica chassis in Ohio with a built 289 and C5 suspension has been an intense hands-on journey filled with late nights perfecting every detail for that classic look. When the high-compression engine needed a reliable battery upgrade during testing I researched interstate battery vs duralast for honest comparisons. Real user insights on longevity and performance guided me to the stronger choice that cranks strong every time. Now the car fires up instantly turning garage sessions into thrilling progress and weekend drives with pure classic car joy.

Welcome, Alan from Ohio! Kellison GT40 + custom chassis, 289, and C5—a true garage hero. Don't be jealous of the kits; your build will be unique.

I'd love to see how this works out and if you are willing to share some dimensions, that would be awesome. I plan on using the C5 suspension on my KVA chassis and realize I'll be doing a lot of mods.

I'm finishing up a build on a kit Shelby Daytona (Fiberfab Banshee) I built the chassis from scratch and used C5 suspension front and back. I used narrowed C5 crossmembers and Dobbermin Adapters in the rear. Turned out nice and I like the C5 stuff. Want to do the same (sorta) on my GT, but not using the cross members. I'll modify the chassis the way you are to make it work. Yours is looking great, keep posting!

There is one thing I see, the stock application has a lot of adjustment on the mounts with a cam to allow alignment. They can make a huge difference in the alignment process.
