Another newbie SL-C Budget thread

Is a $80K budget doable? What parts am I missing?

Main Purpose: street driven with several track days per year
Initial goal of around 450 hp with a end state of around 550 hp: standard LS3 or LS3 E-Rod with modification to come later
Chassis: 6 point roll-cage, street tail, E-brake, power door locks and race side skirt – what does the optional street tail add to the stage 4 body?
LS3 dry sump system with 12 quarts capacity
Meziere electric water pump
exhaust
catalytic converters – hate that catless foul smell!!!
Griffin trans-axle
flywheel
clutch
starter
Walboro lift pump – flow rate????
Bosche 044 main fuel pump
Fuel surge/swirl pot
Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator - psi setting???
coolant expansion tank
miscellaneous stainless steel hose and fitting: fuel lines, clutch line and brake line
miscellaneous coolant hose
Michelin Pilot Sport
Brake pads
coolant and brake fluid
Leather cover dash
Alcantara cover seats and seat rail
Adjustable pedal box
Stereo System with LCD
Backup camera
Leather cover dash
Optima redtop battery
Hood Emblem: 1st Gen MR2 screaming chicken or MR2 Spyder V Edition

Upgrade at a later Time Not part of the $80K budget
Edelbrock Supercharger
Accusump kit
Interior: factory panel kit, carpet, leather, alcantara and carbon fiber
Swaybars
Race Logic Traction Control – Maybe???
ABS – Maybe???

Absolutely doable.. but your stereo and interior , depending upon spec could knock you over...

Forget ABS completely...The only stand alone system currently available worth looking at is 10k...and made by Bosch as a motorsports application.

Sound system, NO! Exhaust note, YES! That's the real music.
Otherwise, you can do it easily for less than 80K. Keep to a "standard" build and
try not to be tempted by changing things "just because". Ask me, I know.

Since you have spec'd a dry sump LS3, I would think that the Accusump would not be needed..

I agree with Randy that the Accusump would only be useful @ start-up, unless you decide to fore-go the complexity of the dry sump for perhaps ARE baffled pan, etc. Not sure about the Meziere water pump, most notably on the track.

good point doc, i wouldnt mess wiht the elecric water pump since the kinks are now worked out on the mechanical. I havent had a single issue on coolant in 4k miles...

One thing that might help on the exhaust. Z06 takes off exhaust is pretty plentiful on ebay/craigs list. i picked up the manifolds with cats for $250. then 3 tig points on two 3" ss j-bends and done.

I agree with the cats, they give you a little back pressure for low end HP too. this can save 2k on exhaust. I bet you'd be under $75k if you went with a g50/50

There are several things that I have almost forgotten: rubberized under carriage coating and heat barrier/insulation and wire fire sleeve. The point is taken on the Meziere water pump.

I actually have a cheaper option using a build 3SGTE installed currently in my 93 MR2 Turbo. The 3SGTE has JE forge pistons and ring, eagle rods, 1mm oversize valves, HKS 264 camshafts, TD06 20g turbo, Fidanza flywheel, 82lb Seimens injectors and an AEM EMS tuned by John Reed dynoed at 310 HP. I even have a spare E154 tranny, a spare engine harness, an Aquamist 2s water/alcohol injection system and set of Yukon truck coils for coil over plug conversion sitting in my garage. It would require a bit of work to return my MR2 turbo back to stock and the shopping list for the SL-C wold be short. The shopping list for 3SGTE parts would even be shorter: BOV, clutch, flywheel and stock 440 fuel injectors. However I would not be able to reach my end 550 hp goal and the engine is not very pretty.

This is coming from the guy who hasn't even recieved his SL-C, but if you make a very detailed budget...AND STICK WITH IT...I think you'll see it can easily be done for under 80K.

Hopefully one day I will take my own advice

But, but, but, this is sooo cool I just have to do it.......
That's when the cash register ringing will keep you awake at night!
Keep it straight forward and simply build the car as intended (no major overthinking).
