Rick
I asked Roger (Metallurgist at work and his reply follows)
Ian,
I have not been able to find a DIN equivalent to En16.
It is a manganese molybdenum steel, capable of through hardening
Nick has quoted the newer designation 606M36 and this is the
free-machining grade with higher than standard sulphur content. I would
prefer a non-free-machining grade but I'm not that bothered.
The letter T refers to the temper-condition, which is 55 tons per
squinch tensile strength.
I would recommend En 19T, a Chrome molybdenum steel with properties
similar to En 16. A good all-rounder without any nasty habits.
Modern BS designation is 709M40 but I don't know the latest European
gobbledygook designation. Still, it is equivalent to Werkstoffe number
1.7225.
Hope this helps,
Roger
So hopefully this will suffice
Cheers
Ian
