Anyone got an RCR SL-C race car?

SL-C spec racer....an SL-C built specifically for racing/track with no street parts required and designed to compete with and against other cars built the same way...obviously this is a good basis for someone wanting to add more expensive drivetrains or electronics but the base package is provided to add a level of parity.

The theory is to amortise the development costs over more cars sold and enable the costs to be kept inline...

Photos...check the Thunderhill #18 thread

NICE Fran!

Sounds like something I would be interested in

Yes I saw the pic`s of #18, they are (car)PORN, but I want MORE! ;)

I also read something about the "spec.engine" Is this spec.car supposed to be delivered with an engine and drivetrain too?

...there is no doubt in my mind that a nice GTM can be built for WAY less than an SLC.

After having built an FF Roadster, then driven and tweaked it for 4 years, looked hard at a GTM, watched and discussed the GTM with the same folks that have done work on our FFR who have built a GTM, made it 90% thru an RCR40, and had experience with the SLC and know what it cost and the effort required to put it together...

....I respectfully disagree. I guess it depends on how you define "nice" and "way less". And whether or not you consider time to be money.

Ketil,

I am working on a spec engine package now...met with one engine builder yesterday and meeting with another on Friday
the engine will be LS3 based and will run a full season with little to no maintenace...have a mid level RPM redline...7800-8000 and the target power is 500hp

Transaxle TBD but Mendeola seq. if the price is right...

The car will not be delivered with these components but can be spec'ed as such if a turnkey track package is desired.

Well, there are a couple of builds going on right now that are attempting to test the envelope of a really nice <$40k total build cost GTM. I am anxious to see them.

Also, Yvonne Migliori's GTM, which is "built by the book" with a ~$1500 paint job, reportedly was done for less than $40k. It's not show quality or anything, don't get me wrong, but it is VERY attractive, has a decent interior, and is a very fun car to drive. It's what I would call a "nice" build. Not show quality, but passes the five foot test and is a fun, and yet still functional, car.

Put it next to an SLC and there will be HUGE differences, but again, the designers of the said cars came at the problem from two different angles.

Crash...thats with free labour though ...and buying a turnkey package is obviously going to cost more as a shops labour is never free...although there are times when people think my shop sure is....:stunned:

Very good sir,

Sounds really interesting, and by the time I`m ready to order I guess you`ll have everything worked out with prices and stuff.
I`m really looking forward to follow you in this process.

Not to be a jerk or anything, but I think it`s impossible to settle the "what-does-a-NICE- GTM/SL-C-cost-to-build" debate in any of the forums. The word nice has a VERY relative meaning to each and every one of us.

I know I`ll build my kit car the way I want it within my budget, and couldn`t care less about what anyone else thinks of it.
Shure I`ll listen to good advice from people that actually have built one or more, but in the end I`m the one that`s paying for it ;)

Ketil:

We all started out dispassionate, thoughtful and well reasoned, as your last reply shows you to be.

There is still time for you, but, obviously, this car thing has corrupted our souls and turned us bitter.

Get out while you can...

Yes I hear you guys, "it`s just the way it goes" right ? Somehow I have never commited to anything so strong that I couldn`t see the truth :lipsrsealed:

Yes one tend to be able to overlook (some) flaws in the favorite thing/car/girl/++ don`t we? ;)

I'm only slightly ashamed to say that building a car is now the first thing I think of when I wake up and the last thing I think of just before I fall asleep.

Hi ArtGirl!

That`s nothing to be ashamed of, far from it! It just goes to show what a true gearhead you are ;)

I too have to admit that the best part of my spare time goes to study both the GTM and the SL-C. My wife is not impressed by this, but now I know what to tell her when she complains the most

It's when it haunts your dreams as well that you know you are over the edge. I have to really think about talking about other topics in social situations. All the while I am thinking..."is that fitting a -8 or -10? Will it clear that bump in the block???"

Cheers to all!
