Audi 016 Tranny questions.

Hi guys,

Here are some piccies of my Audi tranny prior to me tidying it up and respraying it.

My question is this: -

I have no experience with tranny's at all. from the picture I have here, it seems that there is an opening into the box next to the clutch fluid drain point and that doesn;t seem right to me.

Also, does anyone know of any schematics to show me what's what, i.e. there are two sensors on there for what etc...

Please assume that I know nothing at all and treat me like an idiot, as when it comes to gearboxes, that is frankly true .

There are lots of threads on the 016 in GT40 Tech: Powertrains/Transaxles.

See if you can determine which type of 016 you have.

The hole in the left side below and behind the clutch cylinder is where the shifter shaft should be. Yours is missing. The 2 sensors are for the reverse light and the up shift light. The one on the rear is for the upshift light. There will be a code stamped on the flat area on top of the bellhousing area that will tell you what the final drive gear ratio is. It is probably either a 5N or AZZ. There are others but those are the most common.
The fitting by the left side output flange is the speedometer drive.
