Avon stops production.

118 years of tyre production has ended ... in the name of mass production and the quest for ever more profit for investors???

I could not refrain from buying a 2nd spare set of CR6-ZZ's for my car today. I don't know of an equal alternative for a street legal race tyre on 15" rims...
Does anyone have any updated information on whether another supplier might resume production, or produce a comparable tire?

I bought four tires from the UK stockist two weeks ago for the Daytona coupe and he said no news as yet but was expecting an announcement early in the New Year. He also said that they had plenty of stock at the moment
hope this helps

all the best everyone from Mark and Sam

Those prices are inline with what other track tires cost (michelin cup2s) I think. Given the amount of rubber in these tires, its not too bad at all.

From another website:

"Great news I think. Avon Racing Tyres, UK was bought out by a private company, Nova Motorsport, UK that was formed in August 2023 and they likely plan to use molds they must have purchased from Goodyear/Avon/Cooper and plan to manufacture tires that were formerly made by Avon. They developed the name Nova by reversing the letters of the original company's name and added Motorsport. If you go to their website, they just state to stand by and they will have news down the road so to speak. You can leave them your email and be on their mailing list for updates. This is great news for lots of us who really like Avon tires ( and slicks). I use them on my Stalker AXR and the A11 compound works well for me and I plan to get more tires when they start producing them. Thankfully, I was able to obtain some of the last available slicks in the sizes I needed for the Stalker and will be putting the new set on my car likely midway through this next autocross season"

Said they estimate it will take 8 months to get business rolling again.

I just received an update from Nova Motorsport.

Off to a fast start

Dear Michael,

Welcome to the latest update from Nova Motorsport, the new global motorsport brand poised to revolutionise the world of premium competition and specialist tyres.

With our company emerging from ‘stealth mode’ at the end of January, we’ve now spent our first six months in the public eye. These months have been incredibly fast-paced, so we’d like to take this opportunity to bring you up to speed on what's been happening.

Strong team, strong foundation

Nova Motorsport launched in January with a mission to maintain the legacy of Avon Motorsport and create a range of superior premium competition and specialist tyres that will deliver exemplary performance on the racetrack and beyond.

Right from the start, we were determined to assemble the strongest global team of motorsport tyre experts possible. Here is the team we’ve built so far, complete with a number of names those of you from the world of motorsport tyres will recognise:

James Weekley serves as Nova Motorsport’s Commercial Director and Daniel Stanton is Technical Sales and Marketing Manager. Paul Coates is Contracts Manager, James Missellbrook Sales Manager, Daniel Cass Sales & Distribution Manager and Paul Harvey is the business’ Financial Controller.

Mike Lynch is Nova Motorsport’s Chief Technical Officer and Matthew Vincent the brand’s Senior Product Category Manager. Jack Price is Product Category Manager, Phil Carder Product Engineer and Steve Filer Production Manager.

Nova Motorsport’s warehouse and distribution team is crucial to the new brand’s offer to global dealers, and the transfer of highly experienced personnel always willing to go the extra mile from these departments within Avon Motorsport ensures unbroken continuation of excellent and highly knowledgeable service.

Rights to Avon Motorsport tyre product range secured

Within just over one month of our launch, we were delighted to announce that Avon Motorsport had acquired the intellectual property and manufacturing assets, including the brand licence, for ‘Avon Motorsport’ and ‘Avon Racing’.

This is big news for motorsport competitors worldwide. Nova Motorsport’s ability to supply and, in the very near future, resume production of a wide range of Avon Motorsport tyres, means we can keep drivers on the track and, just as importantly, keep the legendary Avon Motorsport name alive while developing new products for the future.

Reinforcing our commitment to the motorsport community

Just as the Avon tyre brand sat at the heart of the motorsport community for well over a century, winning countless championships across multiple disciplines, we at Nova Motorsport are determined to do the same. We are proud to wear our hearts on our sleeves and are passionate about delivering the most advanced tyre technology across all forms of motorsport in the UK, Europe, and worldwide. And we have lost no time in demonstrating that commitment either.

Within a matter of weeks, Nova Motorsport signed up three significant multi-year partnerships. We are the official tyre supplier of the European-wide RallyX championship, the official tyre supplier of four prestigious Peter Auto historic racing series in Europe, and the title sponsor and major tyre supplier of the British Hillclimb Championship. Broadening our reach into Europe, we announced another strategic partnership in May with sponsorship of the 2024 French Rallycross Championship (FFSA Championnat De France Rallycross) and in June, the sponsorship of the 2024 Spanish Hillclimb Championship (CEM, Campeonato de España de Montaña). Nova Motorsport will announce further strategic partnerships in the coming months.
A new global motorsport brand is born: Nova Motorsport
Acquiring leading tyre producer Camac

Nova Motorsport committed to another significant strategic milestone when we acquired Portugal’s national tyre manufacturer, Camac. This sent a very clear signal about our future intentions and represents a substantial expansion in Nova Motorsport’s capability and reach within the specialist and motorsport tyre industry, further cementing our exclusive role as the global supplier of the vast majority of Avon Motorsport and Avon Racing products.

Based in Palmeira, Portugal, Camac boasts an annual production capacity of over 500,000 tyres. The company has long been established as a key player in the specialist tyre market, including the highly competitive motorsport sector. This acquisition marks a further pivotal step for Nova Motorsport towards becoming an independent powerhouse focused exclusively on developing and manufacturing high-performance motorsport and specialist tyres.

Located within the European Union, Camac's manufacturing facility is ideally situated to serve our customers across Europe and the rest of the world.

Thank you for your interest in Nova Motorsport, to keep up to date, please stay tuned to our social media channels, our website and via our newsletter updates.
