I saw this on the News and it hit home.

BBC News - UK remembers Battle of the Atlantic 70 years on

70 Years ago and the Battle of the Atlantic was in full swing. Brave men the merchant seamen.

My Mother's uncle Andrew was one of them. He brought her back a doll from America on one trip. 3 generations have played with and admired it and it must now be 70 years old too!

Thank you to all the brave men that served - irrespective of what part of the war effort you were in.
 
My late grandfather was a captain in the merchant navy at the time, and was one of the last ships to go down to a U Boat, quite a few lives were lost but old Alf survived some how god bless him, lord knows how many crossings he did during the war, but it was a few.
tough ole cockney he was, thats for sure.
