To those of you who have C4 Corvette (1984 to 1987) parking brakes, I have a question about a thin strip of metal that fits between the shoe and the hub - it is bonded to the hub. The Corvette repair manual describes it as a wear shim but it looks like some kind of anti rattle device. Can it be safely be removed. I bent mine up rather badly while trying to install the parking brake shoes for the first time and am afraid that they will interfer with the operation of the brake shoes!
