Sure thing. Call me if I can help with anything else. He built a hybrid Getrag for my car. He's faily priced & it will be done 'right'!

Tom Hughes, What rpms does your getrag turn at 70 mph in 5th gear? Joe /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Tom is right. I met Bill and his lovely wife at Carlisle. I was very impressed with his knowledge of these cars and what makes them tick. Truley enjoyed talking to Bill. We seemed to hit it off right away. He builds a mean hitch for a CAV GT40 too. Just ask Buzz. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Joseph,

We have an exchange 5 th. gear that will bring down the revs in top gear. We have already fitted it to a customers car here in Australia (he is not on this forum) and are fitting it to Norman Falkiners car this week. The first customer was so impressed with the difference that he phoned me as soon as he finished his FIRST drive. I hope Norman comments about it on this forum next week when he gets his car back.

Regarding RPM the AAZ box does slightly over 2000 RPM at 100 kmh (62 mph).

I am happy to sell these to EVEN CAV owners , cost about US $ 500 includes postage etc.

Best wishes,

Robert

Hi Joseph,

Bill built my hybrid Getrag. Is uses the preferred ratio box, but the ring & pinion were swapped out of another unit to provide a more optimum top end cruise in 5th. I'd love to tell you what the RPM's in 5th are, but two (2) problems...
1. The car is back with the builder who is correcting the cooling system issue & some other nit-ipc things.
2. Since I got the Smith's Instruments, I do not yet have the correct pick up for the electronic speedometer, so I can't tell quite how fast I am going. But what I can tell you is it is a blast to drive compared to the demo I drove.

I wanted the ZF, but after common sense got a hold of me, I quickly changed my mind. The ZF unit is 40 some years old. I had a PAntera in the late 70's, and it was not exactly a joy to drive/shift. I cannot see paying a 5-7K preimum for an older box. I am quite pleased with the Getrag. I am obsessive compulsive for originality, regardless of cost, but was able to 'mentally' get past this one issue.

Joesph, let me know if any more questions & I will update you when I get the car back. If you want to PM me sometime, I'll call you on my nickel.

PS: Sorry guys I can't resist showing off my "BLUE BEAUTY". The rest of you 40 owners can relate to that. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sorry to be a bit off post but are you serious about the hitch? I wonder if you could use one to tow one of those motorcycle trailers. Mien frau does not travel without lots of stuff.

I am building my 12 year old daughter a go kart which will be painted the same color as the GT40. I plan to build a light weight trailer for it so that I can tow it with the 40.

I have seriously considered constructing trailers using a GT40 rear clip. I have seen ones that look like small '60s Corvette rear ends and they look pretty cool. Let me know.
