CAV or SPF?

Hallo!

I have been looking around the forum for my answer but havent found a really good answer to my question. If you were to choose between the CAV GT or SPF GT what should be the first choice? As i see it they both have the same chassi, place of manufacturing and just about everything. I guess the handling and such things is about the same too. So what too choose is the BIG question.

The delivery lead times and prices of the respective manufacturers' products may significantly affect your choice...

Perhaps you ought to contact them direct and ask these crucial questions...:)

Quite apart from the fact that SPF apparently have the right to be called "GT40" while other manufacturers/suppliers do not, if that makes any difference to you at all...

Welcome to the forum by the way, and what about Sweden's own manufacturer of mono chassis? The Gox 40? Looks very good...

Both are beautiful cars but the chassis of the cars are completely different actually. You can find numerous pictures on the site of either chassis, but in short the CAV is a stainless steel mono of their own design that closely resembles that of a GTD space frame chassis if it were converted to a mono. The SPF car is a steel mono chassis that is reported to be as close to as an original as has been built to date for serial production in large numbers. It is the only car available right now that has a steel roof as the originals, if originality is a priority.

As to which one is better or which one you should buy, I doubt you'll get a straight answer to that. There are fans of both cars on the forum, although the SPF hasn't been delivered to forum members yet there are a couple that are very close. There are lots of CAVs in the hands of owners, both mono and space frame versions.

In any event, you'll get a lot of good information I think.

Best,
Ron

Hallo Keith!

i think they can be rated like this
1) SPF
2) Cav
3) Gox

And as im in need of the most accurate build and highest finished quality as the car is gonna have showcar quality written all over it, i dont really think the Gox can compete with the other ones. And the Gox need more work, feel free to call me lazy :) So is my ratings right?

Johan,
You have to choose one or the other, the GT40 was built as a race car, so if you want accurate then you have to accept a body that looks a little rough on the gaps and fit, you wont get an accurate GT40 that is a show winner, far from it. If you want a showcar choose a company that has the best body as that is what you see most of.

Guess that the CAV cant beat the SPF and the SPF cant beat the CAV in build quality then. What about handling and other stuff?

Not picking on you or anyone else, but you'll need to define "showcar quality". When this phrase is used in the US it almost universally means one thing - a custom "one off" car with supreme attention to detail. You can't get this sort of showcar quality for the money CAV or Superformance charge, otherwise, they'd be losing cash.

I suppose it all depends on the definition of "showcar quality". If you want the modern US definition of "showcar quality" then be ready to build a one-off car on your own, or send a lot of money to a firm well-known for building such pieces.

Things have really gotten out of hand on the show car circuit with respect to quality, money, and time spent.

Here's the same advice I have given several times before. Go visit the cars themselves. Both of these manufacturers and a couple of others, MDA in Canada and RCR, ERA here in the USA, have representatives with demonstrators here in the north America.

AFTER a trip to look see and touch these cars you will be far more able to ask detailed questions about them. There really isn't a better way to do this and no matter how many people tell you that A is better than B YOU will not know yourself.

Spending several hundred dollars making a tour is cheep compared to the over all cost of a project like this. Besides it will be fun.

I think You scould book a trip to sportscar.se and see what Goran are doing, IMOH his Copy of the original is as close as it is possible to be. And then You have the factory in Your own country. Otherwise I belive it will be at least two -three years before You have a car , If You order today

I have a CAV mono and recently spent some time going over the SPF version. I can honestly say you are likely to find both of superior quaility and very similiar in over all feel. SPF has a good US network and SPF products seem to be built well. There are differences of course and the SPF will set you back a bit more but I did not come away wanting to change to the SPF, nor would I suspect most SPF owners would feel the urge to change to a CAV. Hate the MKiv body style however

Wicked handling with the CAV, have no regrets on choosing this company, would have done so even if SPF had been producing at the time. Both are geared heavily towards the roller market and I think SPF will not accomodate the home builders.

Does anyone know how to get in contact with SPF directly and not thru an american dealer? that is no problem with CAV, but cant find an email adress to SPF

IMHO, you shouldn't commit to either SPF or CAV without considering the RCR. No matter what the marketing suggests, none of the above are originals.

Like said in posts above, visit each if necessary before purchasing. You will never get a straight answer to the question "Which is best", so you have to figure it out for yourself, based upon largely upon your budget of course.

Please remember this is just my opinion. Horses for courses.
