The news over here is reporting you guys had a good 7.0 + shake. Living in California gives one a special viewpoint for these sort of things and I was wondering how all our friends in NZ are doing?

I hope you all are fine and little or no dammage was done. God bless ya.

If memory serves me they just had an event up north a few months ago. I know from looking at Russ Noble's build log that he is in Christchurch. I would think there was loss of power and other services so it may take some time for some of the members to get online and reply as they are probably knee deep in problems.
We wish you the best gents and hope you all are well.

Holy Schnikes!!!!

CNN has pictures of roads all heaved up and buildings laying on cars - but so far no deaths reported....

Thank God!

I'm four hours drive south of Christchurch and we were woken by a good shake at 4:35 this morning. Scared the crap out of the cats who were both asleep on the bed at the time. Lots of TV coverage since the event. Yes, Russ is in Christchurch. I suspect he will have some tidying to do in the workshop and his business. Reports so far indicate lots of structural damage (buildings, sewers, water mains etc.) but only two major injuries, neither of which was fatal. Power and water out to much of the city, but gradually being restored. Power should be pretty much back on by 1800 tonight so they reckon. TV shots show some major land displacement in a few areas and the word is the the ground may have moved 3-4m over the epicentre, which was around 33km west of Christchurch and 10km down. Going to be quite a major cleanup needed. I guess we should be grateful for our high building standards. This quake was of similar magnitude to the one that caused so much devastation in Haiti.....
