Door Locks, etc.

Has anyone come up with any kind of door lock design. It came up in a conversation the other day.
Thanks,
Blas

I had made up lock set for the SPF GTs many years ago. One important consideration is that some reinforcement of the door handle mounting to the door is needed. As the door is fiberglass, someone pulling REAL hard in the handle can crack/break the fiberglass pivot that the handle hinges on. I had done steel reinforcements that bonded to the door inner to spread the load over a much larger area. At the time the cost of making the stainless-steel reinforcement pieces was substantial. Today with laser cutting and urethane press tooling it could be done with reasonable cost. I was using early-mid 50's Ford exterior locks that are a similar shape to the Rover pieces FAV used.

The kit also had a remote so you didn't need to use the key but could in the case of electrical failure.

Bob, that’s the exact design I’m using on my doors. However, I’m undecided on physically blocking the door handle or utilizing the bear claw lock mechanism so I can lock them from inside the car as well (or just passenger side).
