Dry Sump Oil Pan Options for RF?

I'm about to order the engine for my RF and I will be using a dry sump setup - can anyone comment on the manufacturer and model of the pan (Aviaid, Armando, other?) they are using on their RF and how they fit? I noticed on the RF website there is a photo in the gallery of a dry sumped SBF on an engine stand - can anyone from RF comment on the source/model of the pan?

Thanks & Regards,

Al H.

P.S. The engine is World Products (www.worldcastings.com) #102041 375 CI 8.2" deck, 455 HP 445 lb-ft dyno'd crate engine using the new Man-O-War block that is currently appearing in most Ford centric publications. If you have any feedback or comments on this product I'd love to hear them (like what's with the yellow painted block /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ?!) I will be running a remanufactured O1E transaxle from RF.

Thanks Tim & Ross,

I'll be contacting the two vendors you identified (hopefully they retained the design information for the pans they built for you)

Ross - What is the depression in the side of the pan for (on the left in the last photo) - is this a relief for the starter?

Best Regards,

Al

Al,

Here is a link to A.R.E.
This is the pan I am using. It is cast Aluminum and is 4" deep. This pictures are actually my pan as I wanted a little deeper pan so I could go to 401 CI.

Here is a couple of pictures as I was sanding for a polish job.

And one with it on the engine.

Al yes the indent on the side is for the starter (reduction gear type).I had the sump made and forgot to take the starter motor into account.Had to take it back for them to alter it, at my cost of course.Boy custom work can cost you money.

Hi Guys,

I noticed that there is a large difference in the general volume of the pan that Ross is using (HEI) and the one that Richard has (ARE). Is there an advantage to either? I'm assuming that the off the shelf ARE will clear everything like the starter and chassis on an RF (especially for the shallow 289/302 version I'll be using) but Ross's pan seems to provide couple of "mini sumps" that I presume provide (how do I put it...) better suck-ability?

One last thing - is there a way to determine how many stages are appropriate (or at least how many returns should be plumbed into the pan)? Is it based on rpm range, expected cornering G's, crankstyle (e.g. knife edge) or something less obvious?

Thanks again,

Al
