engine for 1149

Got the dyno results on 1149s engine today...made 359 hp and 380 ft/lbs torque, all done by 6300 revs, which is right where we wanted to be. This was with a single Holley 650- turned out my 3x2 Weber rig would not fit. We may try again with Webers later. This engine is a 302 bored to 306, forged internals, AFR 185 heads, MSD, the usual bits. Car is scheduled for test drive September 30th. I will post photos and results.

Jim, Good numbers, can you elaborate about the 3X2 webbers. Why didn't they fit? It would be interesting to see how the same motor will do with the webbers. My guess would be, the performance would be the same

Thanks,

Jim,
You never did mention what you want your Safir to look like. Are you going to do your own thing with color or do a recreation of an original race car?

PS. You're going to luv that 306 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Faili, the problem with the 3x2 Weber rig was that the distributor was trying to occupy the same space as the end carb. There was no way for them to fit. Mine was one of the first, or the first, that Pierce sold, and I think they have modified the plates that bolt the carbs to the manifold, which is made for them by Blue Thunder, I think. It was a big disappointment, however the performance was not.
The car is going to be painted a dark red metallic which is called Dubonnet Red. It looks like the period color which was called Opalescent Maroon. The stripes, which will only be on the sill panels, will be an off-white. I will probably use the Oyster color we used on my boat, just because I like it. I decided to do something a bit different with the tub itself- there is a metallic gray that is used on Aston brake calipers, and if I can find the paint code we will use that.
It was a choice between that and Titanium silver, Hersh, but I like dark red cars.
I don't have any low-res photos of the tub with body on, but if I can get some I will post them. Y'all must be sick of looking at those pieces laid out on the grass.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Jim,
If you really want to use the webers, you might consider using one of the distributorless ignitions like Electromotive's. They are more reasonable with EFI as they control the injectors as well. I believe they have a setup just for ignition though. You might check them out.

Right...I will probably change over to a different induction and ignition system after we get the car running. Mostly I wanted to get the engine broken in and dynoed so that I could put it in the car and know it would make it move. Grand Touring here will have a chassis dyno before too many months are up, and that would be the ideal way to evaluate new induction/ignitions. I am a little surprised that the little 302 made that much power, but I think the fact that I had a really good set of heads helped a lot. They are AFR 185s and were built up by a guy in RI who does a lot of Ford SB performance heads from AFR castings. Plus the engine builders, Burtonsville Machine, really know their stuff. I hope that with a .7 5th gear in the ZF, she will be good for 170 mph. I will run out of nerve way before that, I think. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Jim, I had the same exact problem with my Pierce/IDF set up! 8 months ago, when my engine was being built, the builder called me and said none of the after market distributors work with the manifold! So what we end up doing was to use a 1977 ford distributor and "lock it" at 34 Degrees.

Everything works great now, but I think Pierce now knows about the problem and have fixed the cituation.
