F1 in 2011

Wait until you see the Russian Supertarts when they start their races. They were ever present in the Hard Currency Bar in the Cosmos and all of them were professionals - Doctors - lawyers - Trainee cosmonauts - brain surgeons and so on. I'm sure Bernie will have a few of them up his little sleeves. The bar was really named the Heineken Bar but currency and hard seemed to be quite appropriate desciptors. Apparently the F1 trucks will drive to Russia with armed escorts.
Amazing the lengths that Butch Boy Putin will go to to get a team cap ...

Sam Michael (tech director Williams) may well be absent from Shaghai and all future
events - it has allegedly been muted. The logic of this beats me but they haven't really been doing well I suppose.

One of my friends watches F1 religiously, and I asked him once if he had ever watched NASCAR (he's from North Carolina, where it's very popular) He said he could get the same effect from pouring Skittles into the toilet and flushing it, watching them go around...

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

That is so perfect! I needed a good laugh today. Awesome!

Lewis Hamilton has issued McLaren with the starkest warning yet that he is prepared to walk away from the team unless they give him a car good enough to win his second world championship.
"I have got only a short period in Formula One and I want to be competitive," he said. "I want to win championships. If you're in a good enough place and you're happy then there's no need to go anywhere. But loyalty has its limits."
Hamilton was responding to comments made by McLaren's team principle, Martin Whitmarsh, that he wanted to sign up Hamilton and his team-mate and fellow world champion Jenson Button for "another five years".
Hamilton, who won the world title with McLaren in 2008, warned the team at the start of the season that he wanted to be remembered as a multiple world champion. On Thursday he said: "I've always enjoyed racing here and would like to continue but at the end of the year you have to assess what position you're in and what's happened."
When Hamilton, who has been with the Woking-based McLaren team since signing as a child prodigy, was asked whether he envisaged staying with them for his entire career. "I don't really envisage anything, to be honest," he said.
The 26-year-old was then asked if he thought the idea of being a one-team man was intriguing. "Not really. I don't think there is any attraction to it whatsoever."
Hamilton was a brilliant rookie in 2007, when he missed winning the title by one point. But since pipping Felipe Massa the following year he has suffered two frustrating seasons.
McLaren were not even competitive at the start of the 2009 season and although Hamilton won three races last year his last victory came in the Belgian grand prix in Spa in August and he was well beaten, back in fourth place in the drivers' table.
This season is shaping up to be another disappointment for the British driver, with the German Sebastian Vettel winning the first two races in Australia and Malaysia for Red Bull and Hamilton taking only 22 points. Vettel has won the past four races, and five out of six.
According to Hamilton, Red Bull – who would be favourites to sign him if he did move on, with Mercedes the dark horses – are getting stronger and stronger.
"They're better this year," he said in the build-up to Sunday's Chinese grand prix. "They're just getting better. The car is the quickest so now they can focus on other areas. Their pit stop is the fastest. They're in and out ... boom ... it's like clockwork."
Hamilton, who has just bought one of Prince's guitars for £61,000, is regarded as the finest "racer" in Formula One, and he may have been reminded of his vast potential after signing a new agent to replace his father, Anthony, from whom he parted professionally a year ago.
Whitmarsh's apparent desire to keep his current drivers at McLaren for years to come came as a surprise to Button. "He hasn't spoken to me about that yet," the 2009 champion said. "No one has mentioned it to me. But it's lovely to hear and I'm obviously doing something right. I will grill Martin on it."
Button purchased an antique sword in Malaysia – "I was looking around the market and I thought it was amazing. It has an amazing blade on it. But I have to find out whether it is real or not" – but his focus is on finding the pace to challenge Vettel. He is second in the drivers' standings, four points better off than Hamilton, after a second place in Malaysia last weekend.
"If we get a nice clean race start, we could have a fun race and I think the pace [between McLaren and Red Bull] will be reasonably similar," Button said. "I finished three seconds behind [Vettel] [in Malaysia] but he definitely slowed down at the end but I don't think he did on every lap. Our pace was quite similar. I think we can make more headway than Red Bull, because of not really completely knowing our car and not having the perfect set-up over the past couple of races. Also we have some updates here; I don't know if Red Bull has."
The Australian Mark Webber reacted angrily when asked if he was fed up with being hit over the head with a baseball bat by Vettel, his Red Bull team-mate. The questioner was referring to Eddie Irvine's famous response when asked what it felt like to be so dominated by his then Ferrari team-mate, Michael Schumacher. Irvine said it was "like being hit over the head with a baseball bat".
Webber was furious: "Absolutely fucking ludicrous question mate. You've known me long enough. Five wins in a row? Yeah but that doesn't mean ... he's not just beaten me. He's beaten everyone. So no one will turn up then. We may as well all stay at home.
"That's what a competitor does [come back fighting]. Nothing lasts forever. That's the way it goes. Like I said he is doing a good job and Malaysia was close between us. Tough first lap [for me] but that's what happens. Come here, see how we go ... I think ... I'll stop there."

You have to take your hat off to Red Bull. Technologically brilliant.

They are now able to disable Webber's KERS from the pits.

How low can they go?

Hmmm....

I love a good conspiracy theory, and I can't help thinking that RB are now seriously screwing Webber...

I would love to know who's choice it was to send him out on prime's and not the option, to get him at least into qualy 2....

When interviewed, MW was not a happy bunny. I actually think that he may have completely lost his mojo now, and it's going to be a long ride back to the top.

Speed mentioned that Webers car may have more going on with it than just Kers. The Kers system allows .3 of a second over non kers, not 2 seconds. Maybe Weber should get a car from Algusuari or Buemi, put on the yellow nose and run it instead. Vettel did a remarkable job with a veryt quick time over the rest of the field.

It was announced that McLaren has set aside $175,000,000 for Hamilton and Button's contracts. Wow.

Conspiracy theory, are they trying to get rid of Weber to woo someone like Hamilton who has stated that he would like to be remembered as a multi world champion ( that sounds like he has won multi worlds, sorry). And does this go to McLaren willing to come up with so much money to keep Hamilton?

F1, the mans soap opera.

Good one Pete. Time for Weber to cut his losses and scoot elsewhere. I don't think he'll ever get a fair shake at RB. It would be ironic if for some reason a second team car will be required to fight off the McLarens after all of this.

Tom - Setting that sort of money aside and actually having that sort of money are two different things. I think it's all hot air from Mr Whippy. A smoke and mirrors trick.
They don't seem to be polesitters anymore and before very much longer, they will tell everyone they are concentrating on the 2012 car. I haven't done the mathematics yet but sooner or later Vettel will only have to come second and then possibly only third to be the 2011 champion no matter how hard Hamilton and even Button try to win. Webber? Don't go there. Seems by his performance and body language he's already yesterdays man and 2010 was his best chance. I don't subscribe to conspiracies but nothing short of a miracle will help him recover him now. Decent bloke but it's over for him now. Thats what I think.(TWIT)

Stop trying to wind me up David, I'm not saying that Webber would beat Vettel, but given the same equipment he would be damn close.
I am very surprised that RB cant seem to make MW's car work, while Seb's runs like a clock.
I hope Horner enjoys his paycheck.

Would I do such a thing Pete ?
I cannot disagree with you but the facts are out there.
For this race in Shanghai and from his grid position I think there
is a high probability of a DNF for Webber - with a damaged
car as he tries to make some progress through the field.

Hahah, of course not:laugh:
Assuming Webber retires at season end, who would want to go to a Team that treats it's number two driver as shabbily as RB is treating Webber?
Certainly not LH or JB I wouldn't think.

Pete,

Although Red Bull has a favored son, and the driver that is not Vettel has an up hill fight.....

That said the line of drivers that would take that job is very long!

The number of drivers who would not take that ride............NONE

Jim, I think you misunderstood me, I am assuming that RB would want a top driver to partner Vettel, Of the caliber of LH, JB, Alonso, etc.
I cannot see any of them wanting the ride to be treated like Webber.
Sure a long line of lesser lights would be available.

RB - Your heart is ruling your head.

From pole to second for the favourite.

From 18th to third for the 'other one'.

OK, you finally switched off the anti devices (good thing), but driver ability has shown through.

Strikes me I should explain my interest.

Mark comes from Queanbeyan, a town about 10 minutes across a border from here.

One of a number of very talented people from the town, totally disproportionate from the population numbers.

Was that not great?

I think that after years of trying, they have finally got it right. I've been watching GPs for 45 years and I do not recall that much clear track passing.

Also, did you notice that they could fallow close behind the car in front, it's been a Long time since they could do that.

We had Saubers passing Red Bulls, Force India passing Mclarens, just great.

Additionally, they get so little test time, yet except for that wheel nut, they all finished. Very impressive!
