GT40 Ownership suprises

Funny thing last Saturday at a local car show.

An annoying women walked up to me and was asking to many
questions about the car and myself.

I told her that she and the car had someting in common.

As she waited for a compliment I advised her that she and the
GT-40 were obviously both considered high maintenance.

Cheers

It's to late. You'v reminded me ( hood pins)

It went like this. How not to prep for a car show!

1 Pull my 350R out of garage
2 Wash outside and under hood and lower hood
3 Start to clean interior
4 Found a DAMN cat hair PISS ME OFF!
5 Must get the good vacuum job down at the shop
6 What the hell is that pice of confetti flipping through the air f--- its my hood
7 Got all 5 gears from evry one at the show
8 Yes the effin cat is still alive, but stays clear of me!

My biggest surprise....the amount of attention the car receives. Really, I'm just not use to that. Sure its nice but I get a wee bit nervous when someone pulls up real close for a photo at 70mph. Hood pins/latches...I blame my shear excitement of just wanting to drive the car one morning and even though I have a "check-list" to inspect the latches my excitement got the better of me and at about 40 mph I too got the big air brake. I was gutted for days. How stupid. Never again. As for the ladies I've only been to one big show here in Florida (the National Parts Depot Ford and Mustangs meet) and lo and behold it bloody snowed and remained cold all day. I've had a few young girls ask about going for a spin but once they see how low it is and how high their skirt is they decline. Shame. BTW my car won best exotic of the show...another very nice surprise.

A couple of things.

I don't drive my car at night. Just too many things that can go wrong.

I don't drive my car in the rain. Too much cleanup, can't see, other cars can't see you, dry summer tires cause huge power overstreer problem. I'm fairly certain that if I drive it enough in the rain I will back it into a wall somewhere.

If you are big or if you have a big wife, make sure you all fit. If you don't have a female companion (or whatever) then target for 5 foot tall and under a 100 pounds.

Driving one of these cars on the street is like riding a superbike. Nobody can see you, everybody who does wants to race, ALL the cops see you very well, thankyou.

You become a rock star. Or better said you become a rock star owner.

Be aware that the girls want a ride EVEN though their 200 pound 6 foot boyfriend/husban is standing right beside them and giving you the evil eye. Check around before you chat her up.

Get a proper jack. Do it right the first time.

high maintenance, seems like the car is a never ending task of loose bolts, water/air leaks, engines that seem to have a pesonality. some days runs like a bear other day occaissional miss. this car will drive a perfectionist mad. I don't know how you can own one of these cars and not be a mechanic. constant tinkering to make nicer cleaner, Install some upgrade you saw on another car. winter is terrible in the ne. There is the long winter that requires you to fix things that aren't broken.
All said and done i love everything about this car. the attention, the thrill of driving, being one of a kind at most car show.

Or, if you are like me and would prefer to drive a car of this sort without all the impassioned pleading and uncontrollable crying coming from the passenger's seat, just get a roll-cage with a cross brace that prohibits anyone from getting into that passenger's seat !

That can also solve the almost NON-existent luggage capacity issue! Many here have suggested that the best thing to take on a long trip is a smile and a credit card.......no room for much else if you allow a passenger.

Biggest ownership surprises for me:

how I get giddy every time I look at the car.
how I get nervous everytime I start it up.
how I get excited every time I drive it.
how I am tired every time I put it away - good tired.
how much I really enjoy owning it.

When I eventually get mine on the road, that's how I want to feel.

Its how i feel. I have had mine for a year now and its been the best experience ever. I bought the car because i love cars and i have always loved the GT40, i didn't buy it to look good or gain attention, that just comes with ownership of the car. It is a warming feeling when people are genuinly interested in the car though. This has been the best purchase i've ever made.

When you get it on the road, you won't be dissapointed
