GTD Track Day, Goodwood

On Monday (19th)we are all gathering at the original test track for the 40, its spiritual home, for our club track day. There are 16 GTD40s booked to drive the track, plus some famous classic race cars (and drivers) including Le mans Lister jaguars, Tojiero Buick,Lister Chevrolet, Jaguar XK140 and Dtype, Ferrari etc etc. At lunch time we gather all of the GT40s onto the Grid for a photo shoot, expecting more than 30 cars this year. If you cannot be there, watch for the reports and photographs here and on the club website. Frank

Hi all,
Just to let you know, the GTD40 Club Trackday took place today and by all accounts, everyone had a good time.

Many visitors got rides and hopefully a few are converted to the marque.

A full write-up will follow in due course but in the meantime, here's a piccy to whet your appetite!

Now that is impressive! I simply must remember to join your organization.

When I first started looking at GT40s, I considered joining the GT40 Enthusiasts Club. Is that still an active organization?

Hi Lynn,

Primarily there are two clubs in the UK catering for GT40 interest.

The GTD40s Car Club and the GT40 Enthusiasts Club. Both have their merits and many members of the club that I represent, also happen to be members of the Enthusiasts club.

The GTD40s car club was initiated as an initiative to help those building 40's from GT Developments Ltd (then of Poole). Since then, we have expanded to include GT40s of any quality marque and have members worldwide.

We have a quarterly magazine and some pages of the current issue can be viewed at:

GTD40 Car Club Magazine

If you are interested in joining our club, please mail me directly for details.

Finally, whichever club you decide to join, our website can be found at www.gtd40club.co.uk

Several GT40 Enthusiasts web sites exist.

Hope this clarifies a little.

regards

Oh there was enough sunshine to make it nice and hot inside the cars! I am just grateful that Paul Bearman chose not to wear his promised bikini!

However what was also in attendance was my run of bad luck as having rebuilt the body work damage, now the b****y clutch/spigot bearing has failed! (Have yet to find out exactly what is wrong as box needs to come out.) What have I done to deserve this? Printable comments only please!

Frank, you and Barbara did a great job organising the day, many thanks. Also thanks to you and Aaron for getting the body work repaired in time for me to put it back on the car to come with the 40 after all.

Hi Lynn

With regards to the GT40 Enthusiasts Club, it is still very much in existance. If you take a look at www.gt40enthusiastsclub.com you will see that Eric Smith took over as chairman in March of this year and I took over as Editor of Fortyfication, the club magazine. There is a new magazine to be published in about a weeks time so now is a good time to join. As Paul says, there are benifits from belonging to both clubs if it is only to get two magazines.

May I take this opportunity on behalf of all of the Enthusiasts Club members who attended Goodwood yesterday to thank Frank and Co. on a splendid day, especially the two 'slow' demonstration laps of the circuit. I await to see the video of 25 cars on the circuit at once!

Brian

Frank,
may I also add my congratulations.

Once again the day ran smoothly, no doubt due to your organisational efforts, and almost everyone (except Malcolm) left with a big grin on their faces.

Apart from the 40s, the Listers, Tojeiro, D type and Maserati 450S made the day extra special.

Can't wait for next year!

I have to agree with Paul and Malcolm the track day was superb, the picture says it all. Where else would you see such a line up of replica '40s?!
Many thanks to Frank and Barbara Catt and all those un-named people involed in organising such a wonderful event.

Not quite warm enough for th bikini Malcolm. Just as well realy, the sight of a me in a thong would have scared the children!!!

You would have scared more than just the children Paul!!

Now those "un-named people" are actually as follows;

Dave and Jan Parker from Bordon Tyre and Exhaust who sponsored the day and provided large chunks of food. Without this help the entry fees would be larger than they were. Everyone has benefitted by this support.

Christine Burston who also provided large chunks of food.

Chris Lunn who underwrote some of the car places to help ensure financial success and made sure we had fantastic non GT40 cars to add variety.

Ted, Ian and the other marshalls who provided track organisation and safety crews, all very necessary to clear up OIL and other minor inconveniences!

Barbara for helping Frank (makes him look good) doing all the signing on and other paperwork.

I've personally organised a number of the club track days and know it is very hard work especially as so many people leave it all to the last minute to book etc. Book early for next year to avoid disappointment! Without this large team who work hard on behalf of all club members and the committee our track days would not be possible or even successful.

Malcolm

Thank you for all of the nice comments re. yesterday, it was hard work but immensly satisfying that everyone had such a good day.I personally thoroughly enjoyed my day driving the old "yellow peril", and the opportunity to personally meet so many people that for most of the year are voices on a phone line. Just wait till you see the photos, and pauls video clips of our "slow" parade laps. Frank

As one of the lucky passengers yesterday, I'd like to add my thanks too.

After a few fast laps in Martin Weigolds lovely new car, I had few unbelievable laps in Daves R42. He said he was taking it easy but I'm not so sure!!

Thanks to both of you, and to everyone who helped organising the day. I think this is the 4th I've attended and they get better every year.

I would like to add my thanks also to Frank and Barbara for a great day yesterday. Of course it was even more special for me as it was the first time following the rebuild (thank you again Frank!) that I have taken 6GTD on the track - and I loved it!

Also, thanks to Malcolm, Julian, Ian and Paul whom I sponged various tools and stuff from throughout the day. I will come more prepared next time - honest guv!

Will have to do it more often. Anyone fancy a trip to Spa in September with Wheeltorque?

Martin

Hi all,
Great to see such positive responses to the day however, as it was I who stood up on the front seat of the camera car, with waist upwards through the open sunroof (just!) facing backwards with video camera in hand, that 'slow' lap that people mention felt far from slow to me! In fact we were above 70mph for some time and although that doesnt sound very fast, it sure as hell felt it in the corners. I only hope the video comes out ok and I will announce its posting in due course.

Finally, I too would like to thank our Sponsors, Jan and Dave of Bordon Tyre & Exhaust in Bordon for their generous support, Frank and Barbara for the planning and management of the day and finally, all those who also helped on the day making it another success - roll on Aug 20th next year!

regards

Paul, is there any way you can get the paint code for the yellow 40 in the front row closest to the spectators. Thanks

The first yellow car is I believe Robin Batt's. I have alsways teased him it is British Telecom yellow but this is as yet unconfirmed! He is away at present but you could put the question to him via Frank as frank works on the car a little bit.

The yellow car you refer to is the old war horse, the "yellow peril", which I had the fun of driving that day. There are many photographs of that car on the GTD Website. Frank
