It's probably my age....

Simon:
It always amazes me that some of the sound systems cost more than the vehicle, at least thats what I see around here. And even at home and off the road a bit one can still hear them in winter with all the windows closed as they go down the road.
I guess thats their priorities.
I wonder how one could supply enough current to power that system off an automotive electrical system. By my calculation you would need something like 1200 amps at full power. Maybe available for a few seconds in a surge, but not without extra batteries etc. as they have done.

As they say around here "There's an ass for every seat"

Ok next question

How does he power it?
15000W will use 1250 amps on a 12 volt system

So using 10 alternators at 120 amps each he still does not have enough power to run his sterio - imagine the pulley system he would need to get all those to run!

Don't worry Simon, it's not your age....

If I were 25 again (now that would be fun), I'd still think it crass...

:laugh:That would tingle a bit Paul.
If you were within a couple of metres of that kind of sound power, it would do more than make your ears bleed!!
Ian and Phil - What happens is that the mean rms sound energy is no more than a few watts, now the production of that sound is very inefficient, so it takes a few 10's of watts to produce it, but then if you have ginormous capacitors in the sound amplifier, you can produce thousands of watts over a few microseconds and claim that as the power of your amplifier, when in fact the maximum sustainable power consumption is a few tens of watts.
You need a bit in hand to get good quality sound, but of course listening to loud noises makes you deaf anyway, so it all becomes rather pointless in the end.
I was in Halfords the other day and saw that you could buy a 1Farad capacitor, kind of like a 32" wheel for a mini.

They must be using some weird rating system ?
Geesh, a 50 watt rms will milt your ears,
and just about boil your brain.
And in a closed area the speakers will only move so much air.
So it will only get so loud, and that's it.
It's all mostly B.S. for sure !
