J. Salmon RCR-40 Build

As Christians is coming I treated myself with a poster of my car. By luck I found a great guy who specialized in vintage car posters. I stumbled over a GT40 print he did and asked him if he could do a custom one for me... see the results!!!! If anyone is interested: www.kultkolben.com
See his expose on Instagram. This is really nice.
Cheers

Whooosh... and its 2019!
ever since my last post, the drive shaft bellow went bust... what a mess. Had to clean out the engine bay from all that graphite grease.

Anyhow, got some new bellows and loosened the shafts today. Hope to get all replaced and re-fitted by next week...View attachment 96873

Hi Olaf,

Take a look at this post and thread (https://www.gt40s.com/threads/help-with-930-cv-joint-boots.37215/page-2#post-535233).

I've had the same issue, as have a number of others. Keep your pleats from contacting each other as they will abrade and split as you have seen. As an example, your inner boot in the pic above is about to go (you can see where it has worn down but not through the material yet).

I would highly recommend the 930 boots in silicone. I have thousands of miles on mine, as opposed to 600 on the originals.

Hi Chris,

Do you have a part number on those silicone ones. Mine went bust again as you predicted...
My set now I have tightened with metal fasteners and lubricated with silicone spray to keep them from abrasion...
Cheers!

Part numbers are in the post I linked and for a ZF box running Porsche 930 output flanges. If you have a different box, the parts may be different but the concept is the same:

Boots: https://www.kartek.com/parts/empi-8...oot-for-8693020-or-9345ssbf-boot-flanges.html

Flanges: https://www.kartek.com/parts/empi-p...-for-86-9301-cv-axle-boots-38-flange-lip.html

Clamps: https://www.kartek.com/parts/ideal-...boot-or-hose-clamps-516-wide-sae-size-44.html

Grease: https://www.kartek.com/parts/red-line-cv-2-synthetic-cv-grease-1-lbs-jar.html

Replacing the flanges might seem a little overkill but the stamped nature of the stock ones doesn't suit the boot as well as the machined ones linked above. If you change grease types, COMPLETELY disassemble and clean all the grease out prior to using the new stuff.

Make sure your pleats aren't touching and you should be good to go! Other than that, there weren't any real tricks to it. Should look like this (my driver side [LHD] from the aft):

Great info. Just ordered all the parts for my car. I’d rather swap the boots before the car gets any miles. I haven’t heard anything good about the driveshaft shop boots when running at the angles we have.
