I do happen to think that Clarkson is actually a very funny person with excellent comic timing. Nob or not, he serves to remind us of another, somewhat freer era, when we weren't afraid to laugh and were quite proud of being British. Finally, whatever you might think of Clarkson, it was us, the viewing public that moulded him in that image. We liked it and he grew it.
I can just about stand the other two but as a trio they were infinitely larger than the sum of individual parts - much like a '40 I suppose. It's quite insane that they got 25 years out of that format, and I also believe the show has run its full course.
Will it come back? I will take a punt and forecast a return of Top Gear with the Ginger Nut at the wheel, probably without Pinky & Perky, and be as mundane as Fifth Gear.
Will the three surface on another channel? Who knows....
