Work was almost finished on Alistair's rear inner shell but he has decided to add a wee bit more flaring to the arches for those 12" wheels.

Good to see you back on the forum James.

Hi Andrew,
Good to see you back too.
We have just been trying to get the things finished and never really got onto colour schemes but the liveries of both cars might be reverse combinations of navy blue and Womble white.

The rear flares almost complete so now the long boarding begins.

James, what oil pan are you using? I dimly remember a lot of conversations about flywheels, ring gears, starters, and oil pans. I think the original ones were made by Aviaid- is that what you have? I found it was hard to get the pan rails to seal, if I recall right.

Jim,
We have the Aviaids on and I remember the same conversation.
Some time ago, a couple of guys had issues with their crank ring seals fitting properly on them but I have not heard any more on it.
There is another proprietor out there who makes the pan, and they were good but I can't remember his name.

Right, I think he made mine. It's been long enough I don't recall.

The rear main seal DOES leak a bit. The old two-piece seal, that is. Two pieces are good on women's bathing suits, not so good on rear main seals.

Agreed. We just had to repair a six month old sixties 351 with a two-piece seal. Most times they are good to go for the duration, once in while, no.

I have heard nothing but good things about Armondo's pans.

Nice. Isn't this one going to be Linden Green, or am I confused? I've forgotten what colors and stripe schemes you guys are using, if I ever knew.

Jim,

Our current favourites are:
1st car (race spec) - Wimbledon white with solid Navy blue stripes.
2nd Car (road spec) - Solid Navy blue (perhaps with Wimbledon white stripes ?).

As Alistair said today - "a little bit closer"
The grilles are from an original prototype chassis.

I remember this stage.. it felt like it lasted forever. Thankfully, it did not. For me, the best part was after the painting when the final assembly began. And then putting the interior in, because each step of that we did, the car was more comfortable to be in and felt closer to the end and being complete.

She looks terrific. Hang in there.

Looking very good, James and Ali!

I hope you guys have the cars on the road soon. Perhaps for Le Mans Classics?

Best wishes for 2014!

re: Jimmymac & Alistair's Cars

Last week we decided to build a new rear frame for my car as I did not like the fit of the earlier one. The top mounting lugs are going on this week.
Alistair fitted his door locks which turned out to be the most fiddly of set-ups but he got it spot on.

Last piece of suspension in - front A/roll bar.
The front of this car looks pretty neat from a gopher's view point
