Us rusty Pacific Northwest folks have the pleasure of having one of the most amazing car museums in the world right here in our back yard....the LeMay Car Museum. LeMay Museum The museum is located in Tacoma, Washington and is a fantastic place to visit. The large number of cars on display rotate from an even larger pool of amazing vehicles of all types and ages.
Old man LeMay ran a large garbage and recycling business after WWII. I think he picked up every unwanted vehicle in the whole region for many years, way before anyone else offered a "pick it up for free" service. He was also an avid collector of all types of cars and amassed an amazing collection, both in terms of variety and sheet numbers. His collection included many thousands of cars, in fact, the largest private car collection in the world apparently.
The museum was opened a couple years ago and is now in full swing with a very busy calendar of events and great shows. We also have the advantage here in the PNW of having a ton of ex- Microsoft types who made a lot of money and now own fantastic cars....and lend them to LeMay for rotating display.
If you're ever in the Seattle area and have a few hours to spare it's a must-see for any gear head.
