Loctite

I am removing the coolers from the rear of the car. The bolt/nut combination that attaches the cooler(s) to the frame were joined with loctite red. These little 1/4" combos are harder than heck to get off. Is there a solvent or agent that will make the process any easier. The ones that I could get to completely release clean up nicely with a wire wheel. I have tried Goof Off and WD40 without much success. Any thoughts??

If you can't get heat near it for fear of the cooler's integrity - I would suggest a nut-splitter.. Sounds like a good place for Blue Loctite or Nyloc nuts..

Bill, I believe acetone is a solvent for Loctite red, and might loosen it up for you with a bit of soaking. I don't think WD-40 (akin to fish oil) nor Goofoff (akin to kerosene) are solvents for the red.

Use a hand held propane torch on the end of the bolt, concentrate the heat for about 5 seconds on the bolt & nut on the back of the bracket or flange that secures the cooler. The heat will not compromise the cooler. Use wrenches on both the head and nut after heating. It WILL free up.
